Just flew mine today. Awesome. Have a Super Bee on mine (14lbs of thrust). It's faster then my f-16 which has been clocked straight and level at 147mph, but more like 140mph on avg. Slows down very nice.

I do have one elevator servo a futaba 9451 digital servo.

I epoxied some this g-10 material in the boom, then it comes down in the wing and has a hole in the g-10 material that the wing tube goes thru. So if the boom blocks fail, the booms will stay on. I also fiberglasse one side on the inside to give the boom strength.

just love it so far.

Well you can leave the booms attached to the wings and take the wings and elevator off, or just take it all down. However, I have a trailer that it fits in (and some guys say that it will fit in the back of the SUV.)

Hope this helps

Looks like I can get mine in the car with the wings on, so I just have to bolt the booms on and go. Width of my car is about 60" so I just twist it a little.

Goose,

Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM1x8jwJNlk

I initially had an Artes Bee (12#) turbine on mine. It flew it fine. Top speed was about 125 mph. I wanted more so I now have a Wren SS on it, which is awsome and more than it needs. In my opinion a 14# turbine is the ideal match.

Thats faster than I thought. Previously, the largest rc airplane I have flown was a patriot 40. I guess all the years of small airplanes has distorted my perception. My falcon has a super bee and I would have guess its top speed is 115-120, and thats being generous because it so big to me.
I guess size matters

It's really hard to judge. I've found that the people watching me fly usually think it's going faster than I do.

My Enforcer, which I've flown a lot, was clocked by radar at 160 mph. I usually estimate the speed of my other planes by comparing how much slower or faster than the Enforcer I think they are.

I would expect it to be 130-135 mph with a Super Bee. Try to see if you can time it or find someone with a radar gun.

Goose,
Tell me about fuel sipping. I am looking for an engine in that size range. I had decided on the Merlin 90/ Atres rabbit but since I havent order already one, it looks like the fall before I could get one. I dont want to wait that long.
I fly 7.5 minutes on 64oz with my super bee and I dont think have enough left to miss an approach. How does the SS do?

You guys are probably correct on the speed. I'm just not used to the size and I would like to see it go with someone else flying it. My "other" Bobcat clone weights 13oz with a 25" wingspan and turns a 5x5 19,000 static. It is of course not as fast but it has 3x the pucker factor as the falcon 120.

contact Ron Ballard, Wren USA and inquire about the super sport, its 18 lb thrust and very small and efficient. You end up at partial throttle alot so it goes a long time.. I have one on my Elan and its very fuel efficient. I run 6 minutes on 90 ounces and have 2-3 go arounds, and thats a big plane 84 inch wing, 22 lb. If it were in a falcon120, I bet you could fly 6 min on 80 oz with reserve. You can put an extra header in if needed.

also, you get usa service when needed and very quick.

Call Ron at 260-701-8936 during business hours, he will get back to you quickly.

basically comparing it to the super bee as follows(my uneducated words):

Its pretty close to the same weight, and TSFC (.055) efficiency but the super bee is a smaller turbine at 180K and the SS is a 54mm turbine at 160K rpm but the physical footprints are similar, as is the installed weight.

the super bee is rated at 14 lb thrust and 8.3 oz/min, and the ss is rated at 18+lb and 10 oz/min at that thrust.

If I were to guess, your overall fuel time will be comparable depending if you fly at partial throttle since you would have extra thrust.

Thats what I know, so contact ron and discuss. his expertise has been invaluable to me as I learn about the motor

Hi Guys,
I fly a friends Falcon 120 with an 18lbs thrust Simjet 1200, 50oz dubro tank,we get a good 6 mins on the timer with enough fuel for a go around.
We are going to use a header for taxi out to get more air time.
Timer started at take off run, but fuel burnt on taxi out, so header on taxi out will give at least an extra minute on flight duration.
When we land a taxi back have about 1/2" fuel left in bottom of tank.
Most of the flight at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, max throttle for big vertical manouvres only.
It seems that because it is such a light plane not a lot of throttle is needed for all Jet like manovres.
Great plane to fly & lovely to land.
All the best,
John C

I was looking at getting this Falcon 120, I have a buddy who has one with a 13lb thrust turbine on his,, it flys great but it really isnt' that fast, I was wondering if you guys think the airframe with tight linkages would stand a 17-20 lbs thrust turbine ,,, in a top speed run,, like a P-70 or something, thx

I have a Wren SS in mine with a 64 oz. tank. I like to have enough fuel left for two go-rounds. I've been doing 6 minute flights and have more than enough fuel left. I'm going to up it to 6.5 minutes, which should be about right. With a taxi tank I'm sure 7 minutes would be no problem.

The Falcon seems to hold up fine with an 18# engine. I don't recommend doing any snap rolls or other violent maneuves with it though.

Anyone flying it with the nylon boom bolts, or has everybody replaced them with metal ones ?

Also, where is the elevator in neutral ?
a little up elevator ?

I haven't flown mine yet, but I replaced the blind nuts with 1/4-20 and I am using steel bolts. I think it would be crazy to use plastic bolts on a turbine.

I upgraded mine to steel. Elevator should be flush with top of stab not bottom for neutral setting.

I think just about everyone on this thread who put a turbine on one has updated to steel bolts.

Also, where is the elevator in neutral ?
That will be a function of your CG location and the amount of downthrust. My CG is at 13 inches with 6 degrees downthrust. The elevator neutral is right on the center of the stab. Most are using 5 degrees downthrust and are reporting it to be flush with the top of the stab.
