Hi Guys,
If you waited on getting one of these beauties for the $139.00 you messed up I got mine early this week and when it arrived I was going to order one more and the price has jumped to $179.00. The latest issue of R/C Report just came out and is reviewing this model. they are running out fast.

I am looking for some input on the Spring Air 700 series retracts.
Are thay a drop in or will I have to modify the model to make them fit?

Hi new2. I don't know what turn up washers are, or how you used them. Could you please elaborate ? Maybe a Pic ?
Thanks.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
I have successfully built and flown a Falcon 120 turbine jet recently, and gained enormous help from this forum and it's members. However, after flying the model I found that the Robostruts I was using were the wrong choice for a reasonably heavy, high performance aircraft. My struts have served me well on several different models but are not designed for the duty that I was trying to use them for on the Falcon. There are many excellent commercial sets available that will drop straight into this airframe, but I became inspired by seeing the homemade trailing link struts made by member’s tim777jet and new2jets . I have only basic tools such as electric drill and grinder, and plenty of hand tools including files, saws and screw drivers, so my design had to be made using only what I had available. A quick trip down to the local metal supplier soon had me equipped with an assortment of off –cuts of aluminium rods for a total cost of $12. Off to the local model shop and I bought 10-32 1.5 inch and 4-40 1 inch socket head screws. I used the Dubro 2 inch long by 3/16-inch spring steel axles, and the spring came off an old ducted fan tuned pipe retainer. Now that I have tried turbine flying I cant see myself ever using my DF equipment again!
The main oleo leg is 12mm square aluminium rod and the trailing link is 12mm by 6mm rod. The retracts are Springair with a 3/16 leg hole in them. I drilled and tapped a hole into top of oleo leg and screwed a 10-32 by 1.5 inch socket head screw into hole and then cut the head off. This then became the leg attachment rod. The total weight of the finished leg with wheel and brake was only 10 grams more that the Robostrut, but much stronger and of course will be able to absorb the forces much better than a scissor link type leg. Only minor modification was required to the plastic wheel tubs to accommodate the new legs. My total cost of the 2 legs so far is about $22 and what I am hoping is that others may share their designs and maybe comment on my design, in particular any obvious flaws, as I am certainly no expert in this field! Once again, Tim and new2jets have led the way with their nice looking oleos, mine are more of the same but I have tried to keep it as simple as possible as I do not have access to any machinery.
The photos hopefully explain my design, especially the arrangement of the all-important spring, which works at 90 degrees to the trailing link arm. Also, I found that to upload more than 2 pics at once, the size had to be about 100kbs or less. I just use the PC resolution on my ditital camera. Guys, what did your oleos end up weighing and how do they compare to commercial ones such as the JetA1?

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
great job on the legs, how long did they take you?
trailing links are definately the way to go,i fly off grass and tarmac and always try to make every landing perfect but it doesn`t always go that way and if i hadn`t got t/l i proabably wouldn`t have my falcon any more-especially 2 heavy landings in cologne last week on thick wet grass.
i get headaches doing that kind of stuff and still couldn`t do it-luckily i have a very very good clever mate who always helps me in my many hours(for me,minutes for him)of need,a big cheers to uou know who
the quality of mine is far better than any shop brought items, especially knowing that they were built by a professional and specifically for my baby,it took a few attempts, especially to ensure the right spring rate and also that the link didn`t travel a full 90 degrees otherwise it would of caught and dug in on the grass/tarmac on a heavy arrival
pc res on camera-couldn`t find that setting-put it down to my vvvvvvveryyyyyy ssssssllllllllllllooooooooooooooowwww comp.
dont they look pretty on those legs mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

thanks for the coment`s new2-2jet glad to hear the trailing link`s are still holding up cos i know your landings arn`t always perfect thats why you were the ginepig LOL
Assie 1 t/ link`s look good and will work fine but i don`t know about the way you have put the spring on we tried sevral differnt way`s and strenght springs it s supriseing how strong they have to be but you can easy put springs on like we have but they look good having no machines to help you. i made them on a cnc well done .
we had to put stops on as new2-2jets explaned.
happy landings

I think I get you two guys mixed up! Obviously good mates, but that helps when your trying something new. Once I had settled on a design it took about 3-4 hours to complete and fit in the jet. I just finished making up a new nose leg and am pretty happy with the result. The spring tension is about the same as my mate's JetA1 legs so only time will tell. I have removed the nose plastic tub so do you think that it is needed?

The wheel well is needed to stop air getting in the fuz you might have the canopy blow off with out it, I mounted mine on some 1/2 blocks of balsa to give you the extra hight needed.

Thanks for the tip! The plastic tub started to break up when I tried to trim it, so I will make up a balsa enclosure to replace it. That undercarriage on your jet looks very proffessional, but did you use standard aluminium stock or some harder metal?

What are you guys using for a mount material, wood, aluminum, steel, or what ? Got some 5/8" wide partical board here, what do you think about using that ? It's very strong stuff.
And how much air space between the bottom of the turbine, and the mount base ?
