RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Now I Have the Big L39 finished and has been collected I was left a Falcon 120 to build, It is the white orange/blue scheme which looks good, impressed with the finish of the fuselage for such a cheap model.
Like the idea from adrian above regarding the studs in the booms and the wings.
I built a big corsair few years back and fitted the outer wing panels the same way with washer and nyloc nut on the inside of the wheel well.
I'd say with a jet you could get away with using a wing nut as there would'nt be any vibration to loosen it, but I suppose a spring washer could also be used as well.

A suitably sized washer and locknut should suffice for those who do not have access to a lathe/milling machine
6mm stud in freely available. Nice mod, like that one and will apply to my tornado.

I'm probably going to get a batch of composit fuel tanks made up for the Tornado which would also fit the Falcon 120. If anyone is interested let me know so I can gauge the demand
Thanks

This is what I have used since the beginning for attaching the wing, T nut goes inside the fus and the allen bolt is driven from the slot in the wing, the allen bolt has a captive lock nut on it recessed into the wing root, the boom support in the wing had a carbon tube Hysoled into the bolt hole for the bolts to pinch up against, the booms got some carbon tows between the captive nut plates, after a few years flying no problems.

Used power box as way of amplifying servo signals etc as using a FASST 14ch Rx and there can be known poblems with some servos without boosting up signals etc or I could have used a Orbit plug on etc
Already had the power box so did not buy it especially for the Falcon and I agree with you it bit over the top if you buy just for the Falcon but I did buy a new cockpit power box for my CARF Hawk and that was very much worth it

Try this one, must admit I had to go up in the loft of my workshop to get the wings and take the photo, the Falcon does not come out very often in the winter, much easier to take out my one piece Duckty.

That pic is also before I put the carbon guide tube into the wing to allow the Allen key to find the bolt easier.
Thanks for the help Mark.

Hi guys, I just picked up one of these still in the box from a club member over the weekend. Without having to go through the entire 170 pages of this thread, is there a 'fairly recent' post that someone can direct me to, that lays out what all the popular mods, power, retracts and radio are for this aircraft and things to be weary of?

Someone in uk mentioned a container/bottle they used that worked well as a fuel tank, I have been going through the thread and doing search's but can't find it. Maybe it was in tornado thread ?

I use a 1/2 gallon Juice bottle.

It was a Lenor fabric conditioner bottle, will just fit in over the rear tube spar, apply some heat into the neck and the bottle deforms to the shape needed.

As I have taken all the formers out of the Fus, I have been able to get a 2L Lenor Fabic Conditioner bottle into the rear with just a small amount of heating to clear the wing tube, just put the bottle in place with the wing tube under it, needs a little forcing to get it right, then put a heat gun into the neck of the bottle, the plastic seems to know just where to go and it formed perfectly. I have drilled through the rear deck to take 10mm carbon rod, this will be epoxied to the inside fus wing root formers and to the longitudinal members I am putting in, will take pics when I do it, been a bit side tracked with my Rookie.

post for the persil bottle fuel tank is here. I like the persil botle, much better materail than a coke bottle, less forward and aft movement of the fuel. I have used this same bottle for years in temps as low as minus2 and no cracking or splitting, also very light, cheers tim

I made my own tank from moulded glassfibre/epoxy. It holds about 2.25 litres and gives long flights
I don't use a UAT, just straight from the tank to the pump.
I removed one former and lengthened the underside hatch.
I carved a plug from blue foam to fit the space, with a bit of free play all around.
I then moulded the tank in top and bottom halves, with an overlap, and epoxied them together.
The first attempts were too floppy, so I tried some carbon tows and adding a layer of 2 mm foam between layers of glasscloth, for stiffness.
Seems to work, and I have had several flights last year. Now waiting for better weather. I hope the resin is not affected by fuel, long term.
The neck of the second one I made, the one I fitted to the model, is cut from a soft drink bottle, and the flange was flattened with a film iron. It was then inserted in the glass layup like the foam, with 3 or 4 layers under it and 2 or 3 more on top, and the glasscloth was tied around the neck with kevlar thread.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
My elevator mod, went with one servo in the tailplane like I done with the bobcat.
Very simple to do if using a moulded servo cover. I used a spare one from a Boomerang Elan.
I just cut away the film, glued in four wooden blocks in the corners and screwed down the servo cover, job done very simple.
I fitted it to the bottom of the tailplane so I wanted as much burn proof as possible so made up two alum horns, metal ball link and 3mm rod. Then covered the complete bottom of the tailplane with alum tape.
After I had the job done, I thought I could have also fitted it to the top of the tailplane, with the moulded servo cover it would have looked ok, as my idea initially was to take it out of view.
On the top would have made fitting the alum tape to the bottom easier. Will do that on the next one.
