Top end speeds are all some people (like the press) want to hear ... so difficult for accurate numbers. I can say with certainty that my Mk I version (upgraded with fully sheeted wings and glassed) with a 15 lb Wren 54 on it was radared at 135 straight and level at 1000 feet msl. We all *swore* that it was doing 165 ........
With an 80N engine, at your altitude, you will probably see 170-180.
More important is the low to mid-speed performance allowing you to do most every aerobatic maneuver you want within the confines of the runway - which does not "threaten" the local folks, nor the governmental types ... and impresses the spectators at any event.

Thanks again SeaHawk. "Col. I've currently been flying a DV8R and it flys well but I would like to work on a second jet. I know the falcon/Tornado/navycat, etc isn't really a step up but I like to keep it simple I love a good simple/tough grass field jet. I think the Falcon will still be a littler faster then my DV8R anyway.

Good luck Mike, I have just received the conformal fuel tank for the Falcon from Ken at KMRC Jets. Very nice. He also sent me the templates for new nosegear mounts and bulkheads. These set the retract unit deeper into the fuselage and allow the nose strut to be completely retracted and a door to be added.

How much fuel (capacity) does the conformal fuel tank hold?

They are stated as holding 2.5 litres but Ken has measured them at 2.4 litres. I will be using a 240CC AUT So 1/2 of that will bring available up to 2.5 litres. My current Falcon has a 2 litre cooking oil bottle and a 300cc air trap and I get 7.5 mins of flight time and land with a full air trap and a small amount in the main tank. I would expect 10 mins of flight time from the new setup with a couple of circuits in reserve.

I'm using the jettechusa (Gary Mueller) "somewhat" conformal Kevlar fuel cell he makes for the F-120 - it holds 90 oz (2.66 L)
The KMRC (aussie) conformal tank looked like it held more.
I had to custom refab the formers to hold the tank properly - U probably will/did too.

Yes, I had to modify the formers to hold the 2l bottle in my current Falcon.
I have removed the formers in the new Falcon and will mod them to accept a slide in tray that will have the tank mounted to it. If there is room I will try to locate the pump and plumbing on the underside of the tray. This will necessitate the cockpit formers being removable but I already have a "cunning plan" to allow that.

2.66 litres will fly my current Falcon for nearly 15mins,,, I would be a shivering bundle of nerves by then.
If all goes according to plan and it looks presentable enough I will include pics in this thread.

- I think that I must Keep down the high rpm since my reactor gives more power than needed and i will using 8kg as max thrust (reduice "max RPM") for beginning
- What do you think of that ? (I can measure the thrust with my test bench that I made - 40Kg max)

I use Power HD 1711 MG. They are inexpensive, metal gear, BB, micro servos. (at around 48 in-oz)

But, that depends on what version you have. My cut out's are small. I think the newer versions have a "Mini" sized hole... and some have a single elevator servo.

FYI... I've been using Power HD servos for the past 5 years... and haven't had a single issue. For the price, they can't be beat.

Any servo is only as good as its centring ability, Ali M demonstrates this by rolling twice in one direction and then centring the sticks when straight and level, if the aircraft continues to turn the servo's have not centred sufficiently well, I used to think my servo's where very good until I carried out this test for myself, surprising how even the top end brands can vary from one batch to another of the same servo. I now carry out a test on the ground of all servo's before installing them with a long pointer on the servo and drive it back and forth with the radio to test for centring.

Some may laugh but I'm using cheap Corona DS339MG servos on my rudders, after stripping gears on the hitec servos that were fitted when the rudders got a slight knock when rigging at the field, I stuck these in temporarily and have found them excellent with over 100 flights since.

I like hitec standard size servos but wont use any mini versions anymore other than the 5125. I have used loads of different ones on models from the 9g HS55 up and all seem to strip gears very easily.
I had four HS81's fitted in a electric model and everyone stripped there gears just from normal use, all were eventually replaced with HobbyKing HK15148's and never had an issue since. What does that say for brand names!

I am using a single Hitec 5625 (in tailplane) for elevator.

Hitec all around, I am not as precise as Ali so don't really feel the difference between the good bad and the ugly, but the Hitec seem to be the best out of the bunch on a reasonable budget.

I have taken some more pics of the new Falcon build. I have fitted some lighting, sheeted the wings and applied the covering in the new colours to one wing, The other is underway at the moment.



The new colour scheme will be based on a restored Royal Navy Sea Vixen in the UK.



The nav lights are from Hobbyking. One set for each wing so I only need to supply power to each wing.



The flaps were hinged using Robart hinges set into the wing and flaps at an angle that set the hinge line at the lower surfaces. The flaps are fitted upside down and on opposite sides to allow almost 180 degrees of travel.



I fitted 7kg torque slim line aileron servos. The flaps are 15kg toeque and use the original mounting rails.

I will try to pick up the pace of this build as my first Falcon 1.20 is nearing 100 flights and over 11hrs air time and will be retired at flight 100 and given to a new owner.

I used Corona DS 238MG digital, metal geared servos in the tail spots. They are tough little servos and drop right in to the ver 1 cut outs.
These have been reliable and I am using them again in the new Falcon.
