RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Hi Gio, another different and great idea for the canopy latch. Ref the servo in the tailplane, I found a standard size servo just fits inside the tailplane without having to increase the depth or profle of the tailplane at all. I see you are using a plate on the bottom, not sure how much that will disturb the airflow over the elevator. I did find that the Newer Falcon requires a little more down elevator travel than the older model did, to get the same responsivness, despite the CG being in the same place, strange.
Ref Flaps, I do not use anywhere near the travel of the flaps shown in the above pictures and I find they slow my model down really well. I think you will find them really effective. Cant see in your picture, the position of the servo arm, when the flaps are fully deployed, but best to make sure the servo arm is nearly in line with the control rod that operates the flaps when fully down, this will take the load off the servo and reduce battery drain.
Ref the engie mount, yes the engine mount is not the best design in the world, but it is pretty strong and will take the punishment for many many flights, before showing signs of fatigue, typically around 60 or so flights, depending on how many hard landings you do, in fact I havnt been home too much for around 12 months and still havnt beefed mine up yet, with around 60 flights on her, still no sign of fatigue yet, maybe 61st flight though, best get the glue out.
Another item i would like to add to the model, just for fun, is an airbrake on the top of fuse, like the fighter jets, I think it would interfere with airflow over the tailplane and might not be the best idea, but worth a try, would look pretty cool, I think a nice high altitude test in landing config would be neccessary though. I thought of a small door pneumatic ram, operated when flaps selected to full down to lift up a simple door hinged at the front. When you think about it we have as many, or even more operating hardwear on this simple model, than some more exotic models like the F15, incredible really. Thats what i like about the model, it is very versatile and simple, but can be operated wih a really high spec and many design changes. The guy who converted his to a float plane and the guys who have removed the booms and tailplane and electrified the models have done some excellent work. I always look forward to checking this forum to see what is comming up next, full marks to everyone who posts.
Cheers Tim

hello guys,
my friend just bought this Nitro Models Super Falcon 120 but he he couldn't receive its instructions manual from the seller.
Can you please guide the exact and recommended center of gravity (CG) for this model?
thanks,
haisan.

Hi Aussie, great you are still enjoying the Falcon thread, a little slow just recently. Ref the lead weight, I would rather upgrade my elevator and rudder servos, to heavier or metal geared servos, or add the weight construvtively in strengthening the tailplane or something at the rear. There is a massive lever at the tail, so not much weight would be needed to rebalance, rather than carrying dead weight.
I did manage to get a few flights in while i was home a week or so ago. Temp was 4 degs C, and true to form my ECU throttle input failed again. Had to shut down and fit a 1.5 volt AA battery in my home made internal ECU heater, next and subsequent flights perfect. Plane flew really well and plenty of power on the cold day. Grass was really wet and muddy, didnt realize that half way down the runway, it was completely water logged and flooded. I was heavy with a full tank of smoke fluid and just a s she was getting light, hit the water. The plane disappeared in a wash of water and she slowed dramatically, I kept the power on and she crawled off the ground. No damage and the engine kept running throughout, amazing. On subsequent flights i kept to the side of the runway and didnt carry smoke fluid, she lept off every time, well pleased.
Another fellow modeler had recently built a Hawk with a large jet in stalled. He had 5 flights and decided to sell it due it being a pig to slow down and land. Our field is quite short and he was there watching the falcon fly. He couldnt believe how slow she was on landing and in general just how good it flys.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Hi all, I slowed down a bit on the Falcon, but I am still working on it.
I finished sheeting the wings and they all covered up, and now the big job is on the way, glassing everything.
About the weight of the plane , here in Curacao Caribbean we fly in 15 to 20 nots wind so the plane will fly better on the heavy side.
I will put more pic later on the progress of the plane.
Gio.

Mine wieghs around 26 lbs with fuel
Fuel capacity is about 1 gallon.
The Falcon has the same dimensions as the BVM Bobcat and wieghs about the same as the Falcon with fuel.
My Falcon flys very well.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Hello,
I just started construction on one of these Falcons and I noticed that the small aluminum spar tube is missing. Can anyone tell me the diameter and length of this tube, I am going to install CF tubes.
Hey Derrick, I read in one of the later post you made that you mentioned you did not need formers (I think you said that) because you re enforced the fuselage with fiberglass, How heavy was the cloth you used and how many layers if you do not mind me asking.
Thanks, Joe

Iglassed my current falconwith 1.4 oz cloth and coated with gelcoat. I previously builta falconwith 1/2 oz cloth but it actually ended up being heavier by the time Isurfaced it smooth enough for paint. Icompiled my build processinto a downloadable .pdf posted a few pages earilier: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9287830. There is some helpful information there if you are interested in doing a composite build.

I purchased those from dreamworksrc.com. I have been really happy with them. They are lightweight and easy to use, although a touch pricey. Here's a link: http://dreamworksrc.com/catalog/prod...roducts_id=962

No, I didn't reglass the fuselage.I just stripped all the paint down to the fiberglass. Once the plane was assembled I coated the entire surface with a thin gelcoat, then painted. I did however add a 3 inch strip of 6 oz carbon fiber cloth down the length of thefuselageon both inner sides. They were epoxied in with the same West Systems epoxy used in the fiberglass. The weight was negligible and added a lot of rigiditty, especially around the canopy.

RE: Bob Cat Copy Falcon 120 Jet
Ok, Thanks
I downloaded your PDF and I am going to go with the same approach on the wings and booms. I think I am going to have to re enforce the aft inside part of the fuse, I just purchased one of the newer Falcons and the glass work is paper thin and horrible looking seams, much different in quality than the first one I bought a few years back. Very familiar with the West systems, I use them to repair the yatchs I service here in Florida (very good stuff).
Thanks again.
P.S. Derrick I just recieved the fuel tank, Top Notch quality man!! Thanks!

Hi All,
Just starting a Falcon 120 as my first jet with a Wren 54, spent hours reading this thread, great info!
Regarding fuel tanks, if using a LENOR or COKE bottle would it be beneficial to fibreglass the bottle for extra durability or a waste of time?
Cheers, Paul.

You should take a look at Derricks tanks, they are very reasonable considering the quality and fit. I believe he has an ad running in the for sale section under the jets page

It's a waste of time. 2 liters will give you about 7 minutes flight time.

Hey Admin, the new Beta Multi-file upload bar works great!

I droped a tool onto my canopy in my hobbyroom, cracking it.
Just got it bondo`d and painted. Looks ok...at lest different to the stock color
