....Simmer down now you two...

O.K photo of the Mains gear mount to show why a new plate is needed to fit the JET-1A rtract units. The gear body like John said, needs to go right to the front edge of the ply + the pins and spacer need shortening.....this set of retracts was origonally destined for a Harpoon

The front gear body may well prove to be more awkward..[>:]

...O.k ...front.....As you can see to get the retract body down onto the mounting plate would require removal of a section of former F1...Not good, in fact out of the qution really.

I could put a big spacer under the gear body side nounting plates but this would stop th front wheel retracting into the fuse completley....Any bright ideas..

How about cuting the former, and then creating a new former, like a bridge between the two sides. The new one will just be higher to allow for the retract.

Now, I have a question.... Can you use Jet-1A struts with the stock retracts??

C2 / TS

Cutting the former and forming a new bridge is the way to go. Then the Jet 1A retract unit can be mounted on top of the gear plate. The Jet 1A struts supplied with the kit combo have stubs to suit the pinch type trunnion blocks of the Feibao retract unit. Sorry, I don't know what the diameter of the stub is. Sandor should be able to tell you. He is away for a couple of days.

Yes, what you suggest with the former is pehaps th only way forward..

And yes again the Jet-1A struts, oleo's, call them what you may will work with the stock retracts....in fact they come as standard in the kit..

..Ready to fix the servo mount brackets to the servo's prior to installing the servo's +mounts into the aileron, flap & elevator recess.. pretty straightforward...

The chippies at work should have finished the former bridge piece & new retract mount plates tomorrow...

Beef up the nosegear retract mount with some 3mm carbon fibre plate laminated to it or similiar, the plate is a little weak!

Would jr 8231 be enough for the flaps and ailerons and say a jr 8711 on the elevator?

that is overkill...
but yes you can probably fly without a engine by just wobbling the sticks

Guys,

Finally got chance to play with the Velox today and I am still very pleased with it, especially the paint job, but I've discovered a few little points I want to pass on.

I attempted to put the model together and found that the wing tube is very stiff in one of the wings. Not a major problem at all. Nothing a little sanding won't cure though.

On fitting the tail plane and securing screw, the socket cap just kept turning with no resistance when screwed fully home. After removal it became apparent that the socket cap slides into the blind nut. I cannot see any evidence of a stripped thread, but I suspect this is the case. A similar thing has happened with one of the wings as mine don't fit very well and need work to line them up. Although not hard to fix (re-tap and a 4mm socket cap) I thought I would point out that the metal used for the threads is very soft and care should be taken when securing the socket caps.

Other than that the kit is great and I look forward to getting on with it as soon as the rest of radio gear arrives.

Thanks for the update on the rams etc Sandor. This will be my first model with doors, should be fun!

The Jet-1A retracts appear to be a poor fit in this plane. Can someone confirm that the stock retracts are a drop in fit? Anyone have pictures?

It was my understanding that the standard combo package includes Fei Bao retracts/wheels/brakes and Jet-1A struts. As an option you can get the Jet-1A retracts. Is that correct?

Joe

In my Velox I modified the position of the Feibao main retracts to allow the wheel to centre in the wheel cut out. To do this you need to make up some plywood plates to glue onto the existing retract mount. The reason for this is that if you move the retract body forwards to centre the wheel there is not enough purchase for the rear mounting screws.

You could enlarge the wheel cut out and leave the mount alone but if you do this the gear door will not fully cover the wheel opening. All of this is caused by the trailing link oleo and I guess the model was originally designed for straight oleo legs. BTW the trailing link oleos are the way to go they are very strong and really work on grass strips. The Feibao retracts are also of excellent quality and I would not pay the extra for the Jet 1A retracts as good as they are too.

no this is very confusing
i will try to explain it:

we from Digitech deliver the velox different from others.
we use the stock retracts from Fei bao because they work ok , they are not proffesional but i use them since last year and still ok.
we decided to replace the stock oleo,s with customomised Jet-1A oleo,s since most pilots overhere fly of grass.
so using trailing oleo,s makes sence.
the stock oleo,s maybe are ok for some , but our experiance was terrible and you lose the joy of flying very fast.
also i land like i fly very confusing.....

now we have 2 options:
you can order :

1. landing gear standard
2 .or de luxe version wich has the electronic valves included.

we do NOT suply the whole jet-1a landing gear.
ONLY the 3 oleo,s and a new frontwheel.

now the us importer made a small mistake on his website.
he has the option jet-1a landing gear.
but it should be retracts including jet-1a oleo,s and front oleo incl wheel.
here is a picture how our package looks like:

Front retract and oleo , Main retract and oleo , normal landing gear , de luxe landing gear
