dewey

Really sorry to hear you did not get your medal. You deserved it for your flying, three very solid flights on the F18 and some great landings, I watched them all!. You know what they say, pilots are not paid to fly, they are paid to land.I had a similiar situation where my model was on the sheet as a Hawk, it took about six tries to get it changed. I didn't get a medal either I left on Friday morning to go on vacation for a few days with my long suffering wife!

It was great to meet you and congratulations on you and your team's performance. I am looking forward to flying the 339 with the throws as you suggested.

Best regards

John

Deweyd,

As I said to you in the Hotel on Saturday night, you represented your country with honour and you have nothing to be ashamed of at all. It would have been a privalage to have had you up there in that picture with both Steve and I.

I am currently finishing off doing a full and extensive report for the IJMC (warts and all) and have included your comments from our conversations in the hotel.

Best wishes,

Dave

Dewey did what he thought was right. We all knew his scores and where he belonged. It was missed opportunity for him and the team. Despite numerous opportunites to fix this issue, and having been told and assured it was taken care of, it never was. This was discussed in an early manager's meeting where I told them I had a member in the wrong classification and again it was ignored. I fully believe it was due to the fact that some teams had placed a huge amount of pressure on the organizers in an effort ot get the German members, with similar circumstances, sanctioned, and the organizers did not want it to appear that additional mistakes had been made. It would have also firmed up the German's case, which is why I did not want to see them disqualified. Politics is an ugly game, and does not belong in an R/C competition. The Dutchmen stepped in and helped the organizers get the thing back on the rails before it totally crashed, and to me they deserve aot more credit than they got.
Dave Matthews is right and the IJMC will address these issues in the future to make sure they do not happen again under simlar circumstances. Nothing is being said here that was not circulated in the tents and corners by the participants.

DocYates,

Do you mean "sanction" as in approve the German action or "sanction" as in punish the German team? I think you mean that if it had been officially acknowledged by the organizers that multiple entries were mishandled ("Open" moved to "Individual" by mistake) then the organizers would have had a tougher time punishing (sanctioning?) the Germans as harshly as they did? I think that was your meaning?

Were the heads of IJMC there to over see the event? Who are the leaders of the IJMC?

Yes, I'm sorry for the confusing statement. I for one did not want them disqualified for in my heart I knew that some of the things they were saying was correct. There had been organizational problems from the start, compounded by the accident, and then an unwillingness to accept that things were not working as they should. A rush to justice ensued, and 'viola', they ended up on the chopping block.

Ron,
I am glad you got the picture. When I took them to the PO, the lady asked me if there was anything breakable in the box. Before I could even say "not realy", she threw it over her shoulder into the bin, I almost cringed waiting to hear the breaking glass....LOL
Thanks to everyone who supported the US Team, we were cognizant of all of those who helped to get our pilots on the flightlines while we were there. It was pleasure for me to be associated with the team and with the supporters we had back here in the US.

Tommy:

When I returned home today, I was delighted to find a package from you. Please know how I do appreciate the thought and the framed picture of the team. It has already found a spot in the Hobby room.

Jet Central is proud of its involvement with Sponsorship of the US team for the World Jet Masters. Our comittment to this most important role is firmly entrenched in our goals for 2009 and beyond. It is our privelage.

As Jet Central is now recognized as a true leader in the technology of the RC Turbine, we gladly look forward to the next step with the US Team and anything we can do to assist with our resources.
