Default SM F-4 maiden

Hi guys, I just did the maiden of my new Skymaster F-4 in the Black Bunny scheme. All throughs at instructions settings and CG at 290. The F-4 flew incredible, very stable and a very fun jet to fly. It has a great precense in the air, but you do need to be watching closelly as the all black paint is a bit hard to see if conditions are not perfect.
Takeoffs are very smooth and in about 80 meters with half flaps.
Flying is rock solid, the F-4 is very stable and fly's very scale. I tryed most manouvers and the F-4 performed perfectly. I also tested slow flight characteristics and all the jet did was drop the nose when stall speed was reached. After that apply power and the F-4 was back flying in no time.
Landing was very easy, as the F-4 does not have any bad tendencies and it comes in very stable. Some power needs to be kept to keep the speed so this makes a good insurrance in case of a quick go around.
Touchdown was with no problems at all...
Finally power was from a Jet Central Rhino, this gave me enough power to fly at cruise speed at a little more than half throttle and an incredible power for verticals. The F-4 just seem to go and go... Also the spoolup time is incredible so total power at you finger tips...

Well here is a video and some pics of the day...

Congratulations! That plane looks beautiful, you did a great job and it sounds like you did a pretty good job of piloting too. It looks so good that it makes me want one! I wonder if Momma could stand another plane around the house?

Wow!! Felicitaciones Michel! Ese Bunny debe de estar en PR. Seguro que Anton no se equivoco en el shipping? JEJEJE....

Congratulations Michel. That Bunny should be in PR. Are you sure Anton did not mistaken the shipping?

Un Gran Saludo,

Alejandro

Thanks Enrique....

The F-4 does not fly like the L-39 at all, maybe more like the F-15, but the F-4 I think has his own category... I was very impressed on how stable this jet is, no wing tip stalls and on hard turns it tracks very well. Also slow speed handling is very good. You do need to have good throttle managment on landings if your runway is not too long. In my opinion the F-4 is an awesome jet, very scale, and a lot of fun to fly. Definetly a keeper... Want one???

I will be installing a complete set of scale lights to this one from Flugmodellbau...[X(] Pimp my ride all the way...

Know I just need a chute and it will be complete... Anyone has one...???

What do you like better, the F16, L39, or F4?

Hi Scott, the F-4 has allways been one of my favourite jets so besides flying great I love to see it pass in front of me... The L-39 is very easy to fly and it is very good if you are looking for a first jet but not as chalenging as an F-4. I also like the F-16 a lot, but I would go with the 1/6 scale and put a Rhino in it... Just looking at the F-16 1/6 landing gear is enough... In general from the three I have flown I would say I saty with the F-4...

A few more pics...

Great job , I love black jets, hard to keep clean, lemon pledge furniture polish keeps it slippery....

Some gloss white Sparrow missles/or tanks.... might help with the Top/ bottom visibility....

What Black paint did you use????

Michel -

why do you have to place videos like that here!!?? Now, I really want an F4 - and I still only have 20 flights on my F16!!
Congratulations, it looks great - what a combination!

I am on vacation, 3 weeks in the Greek Island of Naxos, but I am really longing to go home and fly the F16 at the Arvika meet the first weekend in August...[8D]

Congrats again, I can see that you are really enjoying the new plane!

Best regards,
Tor

John, the F-4 came like that out of the box, painted at the factory completelly... I agrre with you in that some white missiles would help on visibility and also would look great...

Tor, you need to get an F-4, you will love this one.... Well enjoy your vacations, send me some new videos of your F-16...

HI Mdurand,
thats a beautiful jet and your thread makes feel much better since I am building an SM F4 as we speak. I gotta ask you though, based on my previous experience with digital servos and their matching problems, I am seriously considering a single 8711 servo for the stab elevator, if not enough torque, I would consider a Seiko servo with 1000 inoz at 6 volts. I do have a basic power box i will be using. What do you think? My other question is are you getting heat damage to the nozzle outputs on the bottom tail? I noticed there is a slight angle to bifurcated pipes, should they be installed with angled down to avoid hot gasses directing to tail? How much is the total empty weight of your F4? did it come out tail heavy and did you have to add nose weights?

thanks again
jason
