Default Jet Legend F22 Raptor with P80 flown off Grass - Maiden Video

Hi Guys,

Yesterday we maiden my Jetlegnd F22 using a P80 and off grass. It flew great and was rather quick in the air even at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. AUW is 12.1kg dry. The plane feels very solid and locked in however we are still going to play around with the landings a bit more as you will see in the video. It really picks up speed when the nose is level or lowered. Thanks to Paul Bennett for doing the maiden flight for me. We put in only two flights but are planning some more on it this weekend to get it fully tuned in.

Hey Jeremy,

Looks good. Congrats. Is that the Maitland field?

Wow, that looks really promising. How long do you reckon the take off roll was??
was that surface really as rough as it looks in the vid?

Hi Garrett,

that is Maitland.

Birdseed, yes the field hasn't had a mow lately and we have had alot of rain so there is grass sprouting up everywhere. I would estimate the take off roll at about 150-170m

I plan on getting a P120 to put in it but it still flies very well with the P80.

Nice job JD...

The review model in RCJI has a Booster 160 for power and is very quick.

I'm putting one together too using Digitech Ulysses 140 at around 31 pounds thrust.

It's a big jet for a P80 but the performance surprised me!

Cheers

Jeff

lol!! you goose. Congrats on your maiden of your baby boomerang too!!

Thanks for the great camera work James.

Jeff: Yeah the P80 pushes it along nicely. The plan is to get a P120 for it but i'll fly it around as is for the meantime as it is very nice to fly.

Hi Jeremy,
how many gear doors and air cylinders are there?? I count 6 doors and think you only need 4 cylinders? Is that correct?

Hi Chris,

I used 6 cylinders, one for each door.

Thanks Jeremy,
I just ordered my F/A-22 and will be adding the gear doors also. Any chance you could post some pictures of your door installation?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

It didnt seem to take any longer, in the time sense to get airborne than my boomerang does.
I guess the similar thrust to weight ratio ( 12lbs thrust to 16lbs dry weight, compared to 8kg thrust to 12kg dry weight) might explain that, assuming they both get airborne at the same or similar speed.

The plane also has a huge wing area, infact the whole body is a lifting surface which helps to get it off the ground easily and once airborne it's clean lines help with speed. I've also got the P80 dialed up to 123k RPM (21lbs??)
