Received an e-mail from Alan Cardash from England with Boomerang jets. Alan and his sister Patricia will be attending the Greater Southwest. Looking forward to meeting them again as they are really great people. They attended the Afterburner and were shown some great southern hospitality now it's our turn to step up the plate and show some Texas hospitality. It's going to be hard to beat what Mississsippe showed them but I believe we can do it.

Just got off the phone with Larry Garrett (event CD) and Randy Brown. Looks like there will be a "Texas Size BBQ" at the field Saturday evening compliments of Randy.
From the word I got this afternoon from someone referring about Randy's BBQ, "the man can cook some BBQ" So plan your meals accordingly.
I thought since Alan and Patricia were coming, this would be a chance for Alan to taste Texas BBQ. But I was told that Randy did this at Florida Jets and Alan was there had already tasted it. Well Alan, there's nothing wrong with having BBQ twice in one year.[sm=tongue_smile.gif]
Stayed tuned for further updates.

The Travelodge is full. The next best choice for a reasonable price hotel close to the field is the Best Western on Woodway Dr. across the hiway from the Travelodge.
If you can't get in there call Dawn at Midway Travel. Her number is in the first post in this thread.

FACTOID
It was brought to my attention yesterday that this years Greater Southwest will be the 25th Anniversary of the event. The first event was held in Lockhart TX about 25 miles SE of Austin and was put on by Bobby Zeiger and Hugh Jones of Austin.
The two planes that made the most impression on me was Tom Cooks twin ducted fan F4 and a Boeing 737 twin DF from Dallas, can't remember the pilots name. He was a Southwest Airllines driver and his model was done up in the Southwest scheme.

I believe the 737 belonged to Tommy Street. He now lives near Houston (Kingswood) and still flies for Southwest. One of their more senior pilots.
He's still involved with RC'ing, but spends more time with his Twin Beechcraft and Kitfox (full scale)
He likes to say he flies everyday. The only difference is: some days he buys the fuel..some days Southwest buys the fuel..
You might see him at Monaville flying BB's Bear or the B29.

The Southwest is just around the corner. Looks like some are arriving Tuesday. I will be there by noon on Wednesday. Vernon Montgomery will be fixin' breakfast Fri. and Sat morning at the field. pancakes, eggs, sausage and bacon and whatever else he decides to throw in, maybe some Starbucks coffee. Yeah right
Fajita dinner at field Friday evening, minimal cost and a free BBQ dinner at field Sat evening compliments of Randy Brown. Also a Tam's A4 will be given away as a pilot drawing Sat. evening. Each pilot gets one ticket for the drawing.

Bob-O, Tom and I are in for Thurs-Sat (I'll stay till Sunday). Save us a parking spot with a hook-up, I plan on stumbling back to the RV at the end of the day, HA! I think this might be my last show for a while as I am leaving Texas to return back to the land from which I'm from. Louisiana. God Bless the swamp!

Hey are they sending you back to New Orleans to chase the bad guys or some other part of the state?
I look forward to seeing you and Tom, are you bringing the A-4?

Talked to Joey (JT's Hobby) and he will have some Spectrum Module sets and the flight data logs for the AR9000 at the Southwest for sale. He might have extra receivers also.
He will be there Friday morning.
HI LARRY, I see you
