Hi. During the last two flights I had gear stuck up issues and needed to rectify this once and for all. In the end I removed the metal gear mounts as it seemed obvious the gear needed to be lowered and canted wheel down to get the tire to lie flat and allow the door to close consistenly. I ended up making oak mounts for the gear and gluing them in place thru the whole length of the gear bay. This was a pain but worthwhile because I believe once finished I can forget about the thing not closing properly and not latching up forever. We shall see next weekend if it deserved the effort involved.
Also since I fly 180Rx and need lots of fuel I have added a 2 litre extra tank surrounded by builders foam to keep in place. No cockpit on this one as its a flying device and easy for maintenance etc. so all is visible. Gradually I will fill the extra tank to the point where I get some energetic up moves and flexible flight envelope without thinking about fuel consumption. I am testing a fuel monitor by http://www.cb-elektronics.de/FSS-330...0Datasheet.pdf
This seems to do the job very as does their speed monitor.
So far no hint of burning the stock pipe with that 180 RX as yet

Hy Skywarrior;
I had a Skyhawlk with same problem with no room for an extra fuel tank.
My solution was to turn the center external scale tank into a true fuel
tank and it worked very well.
You have to make some hard mounting points to the center floor to your aircraft
but at the end It will work fine.
I never had an issue with the tank breaking off in flight if it is done correctly.
You should try this method to keep your cockpit.
I used a round nylon alchohol bottle capped and sealed with the in and out
ports at the center of the bottle directed through the fuse pylon to the main tanks.

Hi Skywarrior;
I had the same issue but not as bad.
I noticed that my gears are at a slight angle outboard
when looking from the front of the plane so I added a
shim at the outboard mounting screws to bring them back to a 90 deg. for a more scale look like the
real aircraft. It solved my gear issue. the gear now sits farther into the wheel well which allows the doors
to close fully.
You did a good job with your added 2 Lt tank.
I did the same but I did not cut out the fire wall as you did.
I had an issue this weekend with my nose gear not staying straight. It pivots at the shaft.
I scraped my wing durring landing due to it was turned to one side after take off
The securing screws are not strong enough to keep it from pivoting so I had to make a small
dimple in the steering shaft to keep it from pivoting and it worked out fine.
Watch out for this problem.
Other than that I love this plane.
I am up to 12 flights now.
One mor thing, the nose wheel tire is not good at all, it tends to try to roll off the rim because
it is not a solid tire. I will have to change it when I get the chance but it is not a top priority right now.

All these problems are baffling me, with the exception of my noseleg not wanting to retract at too high airspeed I have had no issues with landing gear with no mods needed.

I'm not saying that everyone will have the same issue but just something to look out for.
Yes, the nose tire on the New 1/5 scale L-39 is not a solid tire it is a flat tire.
I do not have any info on the old version nose tire so I can not comment on it.
Apart from that, this plane is the best buy for the dollar.
Jetlegend did a good job in construction and performance.
Now I have to dress it up with lights and a cockpit.
I beleive in this build thread there was someone commenting on the nose gear
but I do not remember where and what it was about.

Hi Eugene... I noticed your post on the RCMF thread where you said the "new" C of G is 1/2" too far aft. Are you refering to the factory marked C of G on the new G2 version, or 'your' new C of G location. In any case, can you give me the C of G measurement that you find to be correct?
Also does anyone else that has a G2 version have a preferred C of G.
Thanks,
Steve

Forgive me if it's been asked before but does anyone know where the wing hard points are for gen JL drop tanks?
I flew mine through a tree last month and have aquired another with a set of unfitted tanks.
Gary.

Hi Guys;
I have the hard point locations.
I will post them tonight.
Sorry for the delay.
Also I will post the correct C/G point that I found to be the best spot
for the New Version JL L-39.
After many trial flights and moving the waits around I found that there
C/G point is a bit too tail heavy for landing.
Not everyone will agree with me but this is my findings.
You can fly it around for a good flight but landing is a bit tricky.
I have 21 very good flights on my plane now with my new C/G point.
You can play with it a bit after you get use to your plane.
I`ll be back in one hour.

O ya, I for got.
Finaly there was nothing wrong with my nose tire
It had problems keeping the air pressure.
So I took it apart and greased the inside O-ring
to keep it tight to the retainer and it worked out fine.
My fault on my earlier report of the nose gear tire.
Back to flying this week.

Thanks Eugene.
I test flew my s/h replacement yesterday, it was a dog compared to the one I built/lost.
Weighed it today, 18.47 kg, 40.71 lbs dry!!!
I also ran out of elevator landing.
Gary.

Hi Gary;
There is no hard point in the wing like the FB L-39.
JL uses balsa ribs and did not include a hard point in the wing.
You will have to make one.
I do not have the New version plans but from what i know,
the ribs are in the same place as the old version.
Here is a pic. Hope it helps.
As for my C/G point, I moved the C/G ball on the fuse side forward
one place and started the balance at the center and found it to be
the best spot.
Made another 3 flights yesterday with inverted flybuys and it seams to be smak on.
Hardly any down elevator.
I used 45 degrees of flaps like the real plane with 25 degrees for takeoff.
Works out very good like the F-4 Phantom. HA HA HA
I will send you some pic to reinforce the nose gear forward bulkhead.
It cracked on me yesterday and I do not understand why.
I think that it delaminated from there glue and seperated causing it to crack
where the forward support is between the lower lightening hole and the retract
support. I had to double 1/4 ply it in that area.

Do you have the New version Karsten022???
Post some pics of your plane.
I find (for me that is) that this plane likes speed brakes deploid when landing.
It does no float as much.
Real nice gentle plane but the size is intimidating to people.

Hoping someone can help me. I broke the second and third formers of my plane.
Where the front gear sits and the one behind it. I would gladly pay for copies of the
plans for that area so I could build new ones.
Thanks for your help. Since Jet Legend doesn't have the decency to answer my emails.

Jet Legend is on vacation till the August,19.
To answer your question, they do not make the plans available.
By chance Monica at camlex has the 1:1 PDF plans for the OLD version JL L-39.
They are the same as the New Version except for a few changes to the front and wing attachment points.
You will find your bulkheads and formers on it.
I also broke my FWD bulkhead durring a landing and I am still troubled to finding out why.
I will post a re-inforcement fix for you guys.
Was there a lot of damage to the front end????
If Monica from Camlex cannot help you, then send me an e-mail. [email protected]
Post some pics of the damage please.

Eugene, I found my plans and as you say no hard points.
Attached pic of my drop tanks, I was wrong earlier, they are in two parts, convinced they are gen JetLegend, even painted the correct colour.
Mike Denelin, are you still about? I'm sure you will be able to tell me how to install these.
Gary.

Thanks for your help. This plane is approx. 5 years old, so it's the old version
The broken part is exc. the bulkhead where the front gear sits. The fuselage is intact.
I'll try to contact Monica, if she can send me the plans. If not I will contact you.
Thanks again.

Hi Steve;
Here is my instructions to inflate the Nose tire.
It does not take much to over inflate the tire.
I keep the tire assembly on the strut so I can see
if it is over inflated. If the tire touches the strut fork
walls, then it is over inflated.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the photos. Very instructive. When I contacted Jet Legend, a person
called Alice responded, and in 3 days I received the bulkheads from them.
Very helpful lady.

Glad to be of help.
I am not telling you what to do but
I recomend you add my reinforcement
repair before you put your part in the plane.
Everything revolves around that bulkhead.
It might save you on another bulkhead replacement.
Better safe that sory.
Good luck on the rebuild

Thanks for the tips on the nose wheel inflation Eugene. I never thought of using a screw hole. I just saw that it didn't have the fill nipple as on the mains wheels. I'll give it a shot. Thanks again,
Steve
