Thanks Alan. I have never had a Baby Boomerang or the XL so I did not know that.

So will Boomerang Jets USA. ([link]http://www.boomerangjets.com[/link] or email [email protected] )

Sandor at Digitech is making us custom Jet A1 retracts for the Elan kits in the USA. We don't have a price yet.

We also have Robart sets for both the Elan and the XL.

All sounds good, I have been looking for a jet I can fly from my local grass patch, we only have around 100 feet of smooth grass.

will the Elan be any quicker than a Baby Boomer with a P80?

I had a Baby Boomer with a P80 and it was a great combo, just dont want to be disapointed by using same size Turbine in a larger Airframe. But the Elan looks much cleaner!!

Regards

Peter

Alan:

I have been looking over your website with great interest, got a reply from Patricia about the availibility of an Intro, and listening to my friend Brian telling me how great the Intro flys with a P-70 (he flew it with both a P-60 and P-70).

so, of course, now i want an Elan.

I am new to jets and assembling a KingCat. Lately i have been thinking about something with a little bit less "cash pucker factor" as a 1st jet. so, a few questions on the Elan

1. can it be flown with a P-120, or is that too much motor?
2. keeping with the JetCat theme, what is the "perfect" size JetCat?
3. the video you did i think says 78" W/S, the website says 84". it is 84" W/S, correct?
4. and for the Intro, what is the maximum sized motor you would recommend?
5. are the top speeds similar between the planes?

sorry if these questions have already been answered, but i do apprecate your response. and have fun at JetPower!!

Elan was designed around the P80 size turbines. Personally I fly both of mine with light weight Wren Supersports (around 18 lbs thrust) because I'm fanatic about saving weight where I can and my Elans both come out around 19 lbs ready to go. They fly like ballet dancers, amazing aerobatics and short take off and landings are easy. When you fit a big turbine you need a bigger fuel load and the weight goes up by 3 or 4 lbs heavier, thus needing heavier retracts etc.. In my opinion, the P120 is way over the top unless you dial it down to moderate thrust. Physically it will fit, being the same size as the P80. Just back it off.

The reason various spans have been quoted is because I kept trying different wings until I got the right balance between jet like and aerobatic performance with the ability to glide deadstick in case of a flame out. It is just short of 83" in the final version!

The Intro must be the most flexible jet trainer ever! It has been flown successfuly with everything from a Wren MW44 (10 lbs thrust) to the universal P80 and in one case I was told, with a P120! Definitely not approved of by me! Crazy. P80 MAX. is my recommendation.

The speeds of Intro and Elan are totally different. I deliberately designed slowness into the Intro. There are many things about the design which stop it going over about 140MPH. It's fun and famously easy to fly and to land at below 20 MPH.

If all out speed is your thing, there are plenty of other very quick jets out there to buy.

The Elan has been timed, I was told, at 189 MPH with a Ram 750. I was not there so can't vouch for the accuracy, but it is a clean design and seems to move very nicely through the air. The tricky part for me was to get a reasonable speed machine that could do more than just loops and rolls, but still have the characteristics of all my Boomerang Jets designs.
Namely, easy to fly and land, genuinely aerobatic including sustainable knife edge, spins and snaps both ways with instant predictable drop out, smooth transition to slow flight with nose high landing approach with no danger of a wing dropping and snapping into the ground. Properly set up, the Elan does all of this.

We have a new video being edited right now which will show this. Watch this space for a link as soon as it's ready.

That's it for now,

Alan

Alan,
Do you know of anyone who has the Elan setup for the JR 10X radio?
Thanks,
Don
