My first attempt at Repro Jet 1a Gear
Pics speak for themselves.
The nose strut is part done, should have it done tomorrow.
I've customized these to fit specifically my application, so a few changes were made.
Overall I think a good representation of the original.

RE: My first attempt at Repro Jet 1a Gear
Sean,
I recently purchased a set from Dreamworks. I then ordered their "HD" springs for Large Struts. The springs are still too weak. I need to put stiffer springs on it. Any suggestions? It's for my Boomer XL2 with Rhino.
Thanks,
Andy

RE: My first attempt at Repro Jet 1a Gear
I just had a conversation with Todd about this yesterday. And I keep getting the same answer from him, and the same answer from everyone else I talk to.
Todd says his "HD" springs are fine. Everyone else says they are not strong enough.
I'm keeping my source to myself, since virtually everywhere I turned I got basically the same thing.
I've never used one of todd's springs, so I don't know what he went with or where my spring fits.
Mine is not quite as strong as the original Jet 1a, but it's pretty stiff. I had to work my ass off to get it over the screw, and bending motion is about 85 percent or so of what it takes to bend the jet1a.
Whatever Jet1a sourced is a pretty damn good spring for the application, that is for sure.

FYI
For replacement springs for the Jet -1A struts contact Monica at 1-503-309-0784 or www.camlex-rc.com . They are a US dealer for Jet-1A struts and stock stiffer springs. I use them on my Boomer XL and they made a difference.

I had to design my own oleos too a while back.
I also made my own springs out of XS65 and XS66 materials.
It's been three years now and it is still working perfectly.

Sorry Sandor, but this is my original design.
If I could have find it off the shelves, I would have bought it...
I think what I did looks like nothing else...

No doubt the struts I made are a one off of Jet 1a, I don't claim to design much. Please take as flattery that I chose your product to copy.
This is my first time using a lathe in my life. Rather than come up with my own ideas, it was much easier to take something and try to copy it. I think I said in another thread that I own plenty of your products. This process has taken me three days. It's surely not as if I'm trying to save a hundred bucks here. Simply a process of learning how to use new equipment and enter into another realm of enjoyment from the hobby.
I've enjoyed the process over all. Initially I thought I wanted a CNC lathe. After using a hand lathe over the last few days, I think I would have been severely disappointed with a CNC lathe.
Thanks for the positive comments fellas JR, Barry.
I'm going to engrave the struts later this afternoon.
Later,
Sean

its not critical , sorry if you think that.
if you have the means to make them for yourself i have no problem with that.
just some company,s copy them 1 to 1 and call them their own design..
as for mounting the spring sean , it is much easyer.
i think there is a manual on our website that explains it.
Sandor
ps: if you come up with a new brilliant design let us now first

Digi, can I get you to provide a link on that spring assembly? That would help me out a bunch. I searched here: http://www.digitech-turbines.com/sho...s/dept_98.html
But found no instructions.

Nice way to put the spring back in.
I used to insert spacers between the coils until the length was long enough to put the screws back on both ends...
That was tricky, but it worked too...

this is a classic:
winterday
pilatus porter span 3.75 meters
weight close to 25 kilo
problem : with lift of it banked to the left , went into a knife edge (i swear it wasnt me)
it went right between our 2 entrance gates and went into the side of my MB vito.
it punctured a hole on the side..
i was about 75 meters away from it!
the insurance did not believe it could cause that much damage , so i left the pilatus in the van and send the whole thing to the workshop..
look at the form for the insurance
