Cool that you are building one Barry, as asked above, what turbines are you installing? I'm planning on two of your 140's.

I am going to use my two 170s i think, since I already have them. I am planning to use all the ordnance on mine so it will have a bit more drag and I have a set of back rails so I plan on getting two extra pheonix missiles to go on.

Haven't finalized it yet, but afraid Kris is right, not gonna go senselessly ballistic obviously, but rather, may be able to display some nice slow vertical accelerations
Also too, that the residual thrust may not be so much of a factor since the tomcat wing configs and air brakes could probably make it quite dirty, just too many excuses to go with the 210s.

Cheers,
Barry

Won't do 210s, has to stay within 75 lbs of thrust to be qualified for LTMA-1, looks like two 170s will be perfect, at 74.8 pounds of thrust.

I think even with the 170's the short take offs and straight up vertical will be awesome to say the least.

Can someone advise on servo strengths needed for this aircraft.

The manual has 25kg servos on most surfaces, including the rudders? The rudders don't look that big from the pictures. I was thinking of running 17kg jr 8411hv servos there if safe to do so.

The Spoilers seem reasonably small for JR DS8911 25kg servos to be spec'd also. Will 17kg servos work here??

The leading edge slats have 2 x 5.5kg jr ds3421 spec'd or DS8911..... i assume that's if using one servo with modification, but am not sure really. Anyway from 5kg to 25kg without much more of a description is a little difficult to understand.

I am thinking of doing the aircraft out with all JR High Voltage metal geared servos from my servo cupboard, like this:

ELEVONS: 2 X DS8921HV (36KG)
FLAPS: 2 X DS8921HV (36KG)
RUDDERS: 2 X DS8411HV (17KG)
SPOILERS: 2 X DS8411HV (17KG)
SLATS: 4 X DS8411HV (17KG)
STEERING: 1 X DS8411HV (17KG)

Chime in if you are flying one of these F14's by all means.

Muzz, I took the 8411's out of my F18, too much gear train slop. 8911's much better

Didn't expect them to have slop. Will have a close look at them later today. Thanks for the heads up Pete. Can't have slop, that's for sure.

Muzz,

I ordered (and received in the mean time) mine with the 'servo package', came with all JR8911's (not the HV).

now, given the size of the elevons, I am contemplating on putting the 8911HV in there... same for the flaps...........those things are huge!!!

I would recommend a powerful servo on the nosegear... yesterday I put a 15kg servo in it, and hit's struggling.......so I will be replacing it with a 8911.

I probably will look out for different servo's on the slats as well, 8911 are too big and powerful IMHO.... the spoilers will require some work as well, too much drag on the mechanism....

here's mine by the way.......

Thanks for the input, it's valued. I see you got your nose art done in the end. Looks great.

What radio are you setting your 14 up on.

In advance of getting the plane, I have done my programming on JR's XG14 using all XBUS. I have finally found the limitations of that radio for this model. Ran out of mixes, getting it exactly how I want it. 6 mixes is insufficient for the way I would like to set it up, but it's still very usable for the 14, but more mixes would have allowed me to have more security when setting up the swing wing, to clean away slats/flaps/spoilers, if a flap switch was accidentally left on, when swinging the wing. Unlikely, but it would have been nice to make sure everything went to zero, not just the spoilers, which is what I had to settle for in the end. I have all the options, so mixes were at a premium in the end.

Muzz,

the nose art looks great on the right side, on the left they put it on a bit crooked........

I'll control mine with my trusted Graupner MC 32 (16ch). receivers will be twin GR32's, coupled with a Powerbox Royal, one 'bus' on each wing. not sure how I'll setup the tail yet, will depend if I'll switch to 8911HV or not...
On the MC32, I can setup logical switches, giving me the possibility to set 'OR' or 'AND' conditions. this, coupled with the 'channel switches' will allow me to set inhibits on slat/flap and wing swing, or inhibit canopy opening when wheels up. It will be a challenge in itself to get everything programmed correctly, but given the logical buildup of the programming in these transmitters, I'm sure I'll work it out... mixes won't be a problem I believe, certainly given the 'Flight modes' that can be setup......

Sounds like you have a good plan there with the MC32 Wim.

Would love the 28x, but the price is a bit on the rich side for me at 3k Shane.
