Hello,
I arrive at the end of the F14 building
could you confirm exactly the position for the gravity center?
have you used the skymasterjet set up?
have you used a solution to avoid a trouble with the landing gear when radio is off, because if the re is nô pressure the main gear is not lock ( we used some Festo product cancelled this trouble)

thanks for your answer

Eric

Hi Eric, a broomstick or similar and some wire is all you need cg'ing the Tomcat. All I did is loosened the screw for the wire to loop over and cg it right there at the front of the forward spar and I highly recommend this location. I would say that the Skymaster set up is an excellent starting point, as I maiden'd mine with no issues. I use Airpower 5 in one with no additional shutoff valve and have no issues with rolling the jet on the ground with radio off, the gears won't buckle as they extend and lock to the aft.

Regards,
Barry

Hi Barry,

at that moment, the gravity center position is 15 mm in front of the wing carbon part, is it ok

Yes Keith, right at the front.
Eric, 15mm forward would be nose heavy for my liking, but should probably still be ok.

Barry

I rechecked mine yesterday, after the mods I did ont the nose module, and it balances at about 1cm in front of the spar. Ok in my book...

Mine balances on the front of the crossbeam and having flown it I can confirm it is a good starting point.

Hi Keith, the stab inserts never need to come out. You could make them permanent, but they come as screw in from the factory. Hope that helps.

You will need up mix to counteract the nose pitching down with flap. I have 10% with half flap and another 10 with full flap.

Thanks muzz the instructions say to add epoxy and I just wanted to make sure. Did you add epoxy to the back side of yours? I'm guessing since it says to lube everything your basically making a mold of the bracket for strength.

So, im banging away on mine, hoping to take it to FJ. The instruction manual states "...the F-14 combines air and hydralic fluid to operate the landing gear." Mine doesnt seem to have any hydralic fluid in it. I found a strange air tank that said "shelterguard" on it, is that for filling? Also, whats the best way to keep the gear locked down with the model off? The main gear over rotation rams allow the gear to collapse with power off, no air pressure in them unless on and charged.

here you can see how to use this air tank http://www.skymasterjet.com/oleolegs.htm

you can make safety pins with remove before flight flags to lock them down when the model is off

The hydraulic element of the retract has been eliminated. The tank you describe is for charging the oleos with air ( instructions on the website)

If the mains don't lock you may have to adjust the small lock cylinders to insure the link goes very slightly over centre

Thanks for the response guys. That helps a bunch. I made safety pins out of Nyrod inner liner for the lock, seems to work pretty good.

I have had some success having hydraulic fluid in just the main gear rams but driven by air. It made the gear move in a more scale manner and kept it locked down when the aircraft was off. I may try this trick with just the over rotation ram, it might work as well.

For me oil is the answer, in fact my landing gear is hydraulically operated.

Thanks Chris, I owe it to Neal, who generously showed me his weathering techniques on my Raptor that I subsequently applied to the Tomcat.
