Skymaster F14 Tomcat
#1427
is anyone else having an issue with the main gear finishing the rotation/stowing in the up position? My gear was painted at the factory and was wondering if something due to paint is causing it and maybe a solution to fix it? I have tried oiling the all the joints but it doesnt seem to be freeing up any. Thanks

looks like it was a skymaster, fine broke.
We all know what happened with an FEJ f-14 went in, now lets see what happens to SM F-14

It really sucks to see such a nice jet go in, especially knowing how much time and effort they put in. But in response to dw, I put together mine pretty much in accordance to the manual, 35 flights so far and counting.

What does that have to do with anything? I'm sorry were you mourning the loss? You are a &&$#$#!! Everyone that has one is now going to be worried if this is going to happen to them, the last thing would be to rest and pretend there is nothing to worry about. This is exactly how the FEJ fiasco started.

A friend of mine has a skymaster F-14 painted kit, notice I didn't say ARF. He has had to redo almost everything to make it work at all. The flap hinges were rusted, the airlines had to be rerun once the fuel system was put back in as you can't get them in where they were run at the factory. I made him some carbon plates to beef up the mounting structures so he could put his engines in and out without have to take everything out to do so. I'm sure the loss of the F-14 at TOPGUN will get sorted out and improvements made if needed. But at the costs these plane are rising to and then having to rebuild them I'll stick to scrathbuilding my jets or use well proven kits.

Just to offer a few comments on this. I have been flying my Skymaster F-14 for a bit over a year now, many many flights. Mine was probably out of the first ones.
The jet is standard no extra reinforcements made.
The only problem I had was with the first electric actuators for the wings, but after Skymaster sorted out this, no problem at all.
I really love this jet, it fly's so nice and it is really a fun jet to have.
Because of the actuators problem I had the chance to fly the F-14 with only one wing fixed and the other loose, quite interesting flight but the F-14 handled perfect. Also because of an electric installation problem I also had the chance to land the jet with wings back. Besides a bit more speed all went perfect.
And finally on a friends F-14 we had a flameout of one turbine and I was able to do a couple of circuits with just one engine (Jet Central Cheetah), no problem as well.
So in general from my own experience I have found this jet to be quite forgiving and stable to fly in deferent situations. Again this is my own experience.
Here is a little video, not great quality as it was filmed with some friends iphones and I put all together.

What a welcome post yours is JetsRC. Nice to hear you are having good success with your F14. Was the single engine out noticed straight away? Were the circuits on one engine flown by rudder or by elevon?

Because of the pipe design on this F-14 which if you see is a bit outwards at the end the F-14 kept flying almost straight, I just had to give some correction inputs to the sticks but nothing much.
The circuits made where of course at full power and keeping the same altitude.
Landing was no problem, I just did not use full flaps so I wouldn't loose speed to quickly, so I added half flaps when I had secure runway and the F-14 landed perfectly.
The circuits whee flown using elevons, very little rudder was necessary.
Hope this helps.

Should be right within LTMA-1 regulations and yes, one engine out was a joy to fly, while it lasted, lol, guys, always remember to fuel your jet before you take it up! The only one time, and hopefully the last, that I forget to fuel has to be a F-14, my luck!
