Well, it took a couple days to figure out the fins but I have a good start. I just need to refine the design a little to make them a little more user friendly.

I have been bouncing around doing different things since the bombs are figured out. I decided to finish up the main retract installation and shave the tires down to increas the AOI on the ground. I had to first machine a simple tool to hold the wheel assembly in the lathe and then it was off to sanding! I hope to finish mounting the pylons tonight ans start on wing tank installation.

Since the Robart 635 gear seems to work well-Could Robart 1/2" struts be used instead of the PST scale struts???-This would make for a good model for someone that doesn't require Top Gun quality scale gear for the every day sport flier...Offset struts for the mains and a forked strut for the nose....How many degrees does it take to tuck the nose strut into the fuselage-Would a 90 degree retract work???

Kevin, I see no reason that robart struts would not work. I did find however that the 635s had to be shimmedto keep the wheel from contacting the inner wheel well, not a big deal though. I am not sure on the retraction angle on the nose, have not messed with it too much lately, trying to get these mains and doors finished up. Maybe PST can chime in on the retraction angle????

As I mentioned in the previous post, I had to shim the main retracts a bit for proper function. In doing that, it affected the way that the doors operated so I got to start all over on the strut door!!!! As I was beginning to deal with the strut door again I was hating the angle that it sat at and was thinking of all the retraction issues and an idea popped into my head. I got to thinking of a way to have the door parrallel with the airplane when it was extended and fit flush when the gear came up and locked. After many hours thinking of a simple, light and clean way to do it, this is what I came up with...

Chris,

PST ought to be kissing your hiney for coming up with this innovative solution! Thank you for your inventive and creative work to refine this model into the awesome jet that it was intended and represented to be. The scale features that I have purchased from you have been well worth it and have really enhanced the quality of my F-84. As far as I'm concerned PST's complaint dept. needs to hire your services at a premium .

Switching gears a little. I wanted to get back in CAD and knock out some of the other little mounts that I will need. Bombs are being assembled today so I wanted to build the release trigger. This design will allow the bombs to be released one at a time.

I am nearing the home stretch finally!!! I have started to concentrate on the system installation in the past week. I am shooting for systems completion before my deployment, all that will be left is the paint job when I return in January. Here are a few pics of electrical, and pneumatic stuff in work. The gear valve mount took a while but is working flawlessly, I have installed a micro switch that will open the circut to the lights and canopy system when the gear is retracted, better safe than sorry!!! More to come soon....

Plugging along, here are a few pics of stuff getting shoe horned in the nose. Fuel Shutoff bracket is also complete. Off to design the Speedbrake valve mount!

Well, the carnage continues in the nose but I am getting close. Cramming the air fill valves and gauges has been a serious pain in the backside but I finally have the part small enough to house them under the hatch. The brake valve is the only thing to mount and should drop in above the receiver(I hope).
