AIRWORLD L-39 ALBATROS
Hi,
I need some help with this plane. I bought an L-39 from a person in Germany and besides the CD that came with the kit, there was a short write-up, presumably some instructions.
Is there anybody who has some detailed information (written english instructions or photos) regarding the construction of this plane?
Any assistance will be appreciated.
Thanks
Reuben

There are some notes on the Motors and Rotors website (www.motorsandrotors.com).
Go to the articles/tips page.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your feedback. I already did that and located the website you indicated. Yes it is good but I need to have some information with regards to CG location, whether the supporting landing gear wood inside the wing is already inserted or noe (wings not yet cut out). Also I wish to know whether the intake covers need fitting as mine are a bit oversize. Moreover I wish to know whether the central support (semi-round section) in the cockpit is bought or made by the individual. I don't think these were mentioned in the thread you indicated.
Thanks lads
Reuben

Hi Joe,
thanks for the reply. Henry has not replied as yet, presumably he is busy.
During this time I solved a few issue, however, I have stopped the progress for the moment as I want to see the location of the landing gear. There are no inscribed lines on the fuselage except that the location seems to be somewhere along the central rivet lines (lined in pencil). I managed to make a CAd drawing of the angles taken from a rough pencil drawing. Presumably the wooden parts would be fitted inside the wing, however I am not sure because the CD included photos of how the wooden landing base parts should or are fitted. The other 2 fotos were from the CD showing the angles of the landing gear.
Is there anybody, by any chance, who has the countour line drawing cutouts for the landing gear?
Thanks
Reuben

RE: AIRWORLD L-39 ALBATROS
Hi Reuben:
You have found, as I have, the owner of a new AW Mig-21 kit, that AW kits are what is often referred to as "Builders" kits.....no instructions, minimal hardware, +/- wood......a euphemism for "We are not BVM"..........actually has been fun to attack the new challenge so far, after putting together an UltraBandit, KingCat, BobCat ARF, and Bandit ARF recently.......
I have found the AW landing gear to be superb scale renditions, absolutely bulletproof for grass operations......the fuse and wing surface details are excellent for either paint of FliteMetal cover......the attention to scale size and cockpit detail are also excellent......
The fuse layup is a bit light in some areas but easily remedied with some C/F or Glass cloth and West Systems Epoxy......
The wood is precisely cut, but is, what we call in the U.S. "Modeler's Grade" rather than "Aircraft Grade", but I often double much of the wood for grass ops, even on my excellent BVM kits, with either C/F plate or AV grade plywood.....
In the end, you will have a superb scale rendition of the L-39 and I, the Mig-21, both of which I have recently seen fly at Pensacola Jets.....they both are P***YCats if you keep them light.......more than enough power with any 34-36 lb turbine....
As an aside, on the wings of my Mig, there is a faint rectangle in the mold that produces a faint impression on the lower wing skin where the retract cutout should be.....from there, it is easy to locate the strut cutouts.....not sure you have a similar imprint on yours....it is very faint.....
Best of Luck with your 39.....I plan to post some pics of my build that I will add to the ones previously posted by Johnny Hernandez and JC......
Have a nice Holiday Season.....Tom

RE: AIRWORLD L-39 ALBATROS
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your feedback. It is not so much the lack of instructions because one way or another I might get some information as to were the CG lies etc. I am mostly concerned with the landing gear location because I do not wish to cut out the wing from the wrong location. However, looking closer to the wing underside one can get some idea of were this might be. Christian's photo helped a lot (thanks Christian!) in this regard even though the measurements were not quite visible. Basing on this perceived location I went to draw a cad drawing of how this might be (attached). Meanwhile when I printed the attached drawing and placed the retract on top of it, the positioning looked just about right. This makes me to think that I am close in solving this issue. Once I have the black on white were the location of the landing gear position I will then proceed to cut off the wing and fuselage as per attached CAD drawing.
I am enclosing a foto of were I believe the cutout should start (measured from the root leading edge). I would appreciate it if somebody can confirm these measurements.
Err...sorry..just realised the mm measurements should be 191mm and not 119mm
Thanks
Reuben

Hi,
After recalculation I decided to move the cutting edge closer towards the leading edge to 185mm (app 7.3"). After cutting the whole thing up it looked something liked the attached. I am happy with the results.
