The rule of thumb is 3x the weight, all 3 servos weight 6.33 oz, for example, 1 oz added to the tail then 3 oz needs to be added to the nose to maintain the same CG.

Gary, could you tell us what happened to the first Turbo XL? And , are you planning to make any mods to the new one?

Tks.

I made a couple of mistakes that caused me to lose the first one:
  • twin 2500 mah 5 cell NiMH RX batteries were charged 2 weeks before the last flight. Checked voltage and figured they were still good for a flight or two. Mistake 1
  • I neglected to turn on both RX battery switches. Mistake 2
  • about a minute into the flight, I remembered that I did not turn on both switches but kept flying anyway. Mistake 3
About 2 to 3 minutes into the flight, I tried to enter a left turn and plane was unresponsive, wings level, neutral pitch and probably doing about 140 to 150 MPH. It crashed over a mile away. Looked for it the rest of the day and had to come back the next day to find it. Found one battery deader than dead and one @ 6.6 volts.(24 hours after crash)

The old one flew perfect so not planning on making any changes to the new one, except maybe try to lose some weight in the tail. Took over 4 pounds of lead in the nose to balance.
I am going to switch to A123s from Electrodynamics. I am going to make sure I charge the weekend I intend to fly and I am going to make sure I turn on both switches.

So sorry to hear that, I saw the video you posted, awesome looking jet. Thank you for answering my question.

My Turbo is build, some minor things to do that can only be done as I begin to cover it, should be doing that sometime in Feb, I was looking at it today thinking where could I shave some weight off from the tail.

Here is a question for you,, did you have to reshape the wing saddle right over the flaps because once the wing was mounted on the flaps touched that part of the saddle and it didn't allowed the flaps to line up with the ailerons?

I do not remember having to reshape the wing saddle on mine.

I did not take any steps to try to build mine light, because I did not want it to be a floater. Then I panicked when I balanced it and weighed it thinking I should have built it lighter. But flying it....it did not feel heavy at all so I bet yours will be fine.So get 'er done so the real fun can start.

Hi.
I added in front of the airplane about 360-370 gr.

Thought I'd jump in and bring this thread some fresh blood, lol. In my area, there are three of us that got together to build three 110% sized (making it a tiny bit larger than the Ventrix) turbinators. One is completed and flying, one waiting on engine and landing gear, and mine. I didn't get my wing built in time before winter set in, so I'm finishing up what I can until it gets a little warmer to go out in the garage. I'll be flying mine with a Rabbit 100. The one flying has got an older JC Falcon.

Carlos what did you do for your elevator linkage? I'm going the carbon tube/440 push rods on each end, route myself. Curious to see your ideas.
Thanks

The carbon tubes and 4-40 push rods sounds great, it will work just fine, I got me the Dave Brown push rods some time ago, even if there is some ply it will fly just fine, my Tams F16 had lots of ply on the Elevons and it flew just fine, oops, still flying just fine on the 4th owner

This is exactly what I used for all of my Turbinators for linkages. Works great!
