RE: 1:4 scale MB339 jet build/re-fit
A few pics (if the new computer works) on the MB re-fit.
- home made clunks for the tanks supplied as the original felt ones are not ideal for the flow rates needed for the Olympus turbine.
- home made smoke tank in place now and protected with some heat shield material
- master service panel now has Propane and air fill fillers
- rear rudder pull-pull set up installed, this system seems far more robust, and makes life easier for the replacement of servo etc if things require maintenance.
working on the trust tube and turbine mounting now so will post a few pics later.

RE: 1:4 scale MB339 jet build/re-fit
Spent over 6 hours today trying to work out a system to release the main hatch without any visible latches, catches etc...... well ended up defeated[] Considered a wire in snake but nowhere to exit discretely.
Ended up with two half turn Southco catches and some modifications to the holes left by the original fixing system. The owner really wanted to be able to get in quick should a fire start, so the 7 screws originally used to hold the hatch on were not an option.
Not much to show for an evenings work........

Gear connected up and air tested, found a neat way to secure brake pipe to landing legs using a drilled out horn connectors. Fitted the last of the plumbing, tanks and a few other bits and bobs.

Almost at the point of completion now bar the final system checks etc, although still waiting for the nav lights which are being changed by Flugmodellbau for the latest units which are far easier to mount
Ali was a little concerned over the proximity of the 'hot' end of the turbine to the smoke tank, especially in the event of a flame out or hot start, so I have made two additional heat barriers, one sits just below the turbine and the other shields the wiring loom which feeds the rear fuselage section. Hopefully these will help give a few more seconds protection in the event of fire etc.
A few things to sort in the cockpit area next..........

On the home straight now.
Lights going in, navigation and beacon plus a landing light - sorting out the cockpit seats for the supplied pilot - not to scale I hasten to add before you all bombard me with comments ;-)
Setting up next Thursday with the owner so should hit the skies for certification over the next few months, maybe in time for some late season shows.

Wing tip nav lights fitted. Based roughly on the set up used on the wing tips of the tricolori planes where I guess the panel concealed the hook up for the optional wing tip tanks (?)
Flugmoddelbau LED system which gives a very good light but supplied plastic covers require work to get a good overall finish.

The MB339 has flown its maiden under the 'ultimate' control of Ali, and although there were some teething problems with heat and brakes the plane flew from what I understand superbly.
The hydraulic gear worked without fault, but the main gear door servos stripped so these will be upgraded to better metal geared units for future flights. I don't have many technical details but here are a few pics Ali sent over.......
