pst f84g with flite metal
this is my top gun jet and i have been learning the tricks of flite metal. ed clayman has been a pleasure to deal with and very helpful with plenty of tips. and joey "metal" tamez has steered me correctly as well. i chose the pst f84 because of so many alluminum schemes available. not to mention i pitted next to them at top gun last year and found kraivuth, pornchau and the crew to be as friendly as they come, and lastly, my love of old school fighters.... barry

Looking good Barry. What scheme are you planning to do?

Will see ya down at Top Gun!

the gentleman in the background is from norway. his name is oistein. "the place to be" has gone international. i met him at bomber, he comes to houston on business. he keeps a dauntless at my house and flies when he is in town. we are going out to scobee today. barry

I'm going to have to make the trip across town again...Barry has trained elves staying
up all night, every night to cover this thing. Maybe it was trolls from Norway...brought
in by Oistein'. Looking good, going to get to looking better since 84's were nasty look'n
tin cans.

RE: pst f84g with flite metal
you can quote me ed. i cant say how much i have enjoyed using flite metal. i am already on the look out for another model to flite metal as well. it is the kind of product, the more you do the better it gets and the easier it gets. i even brought the wifey out to look at the f84 last night. she stared at it, but i think it was like a chicken watching a card trick, she new there was something to it, but not quite sure what it was. maybe i will flite metal a purse or something for her to help her appreciate or understand. NOT. barry

RE: pst f84g with flite metal
i sanded the flite metal after i applied it. i used red scotch brite. i want it to look a little tired. all the pics i have of the f84 in korea show the 84 pretty rough. once i am completely finished and get ready to paint my trim, i will softly tape offf each panel and rub it with scotch brite one more time. some in different directions. in the pics you can see i have already done this to the right wing panels. very rewarding finish. barry

Gary:
If you know the overall finish you want on a project it is faster to sand Flite-Metal
before applying it to an individual panel on a plane. After affixing it to the plane
you can use the 3M Scotch Brite in a different direction to quickly change the
direction of the aluminum's grain. The surface texture will be consistant with the
balance of the covering...just directionally different.

I am doing one too. Still learning the flite metal stuff though. Thought I would not do the flite metal, but after I saw Barry's i could not rest my soul after mine had that metal stuff on as well.
Mine will be in a Norwegain sq 338 scheme (see picture)

ok fellas, i have been on the metal all weekend. just about finished with the panels, hatches, etc. now it is time to individually mask off each panel and rub it in with scotch brite. this is by far the best part. instant gratification all the way. barry

RE: pst f84g with flite metal
Hi,
I was lucky and got hold of a real masterpiece of a pilot from elite forces. He is closely following the flite metal coming on the fuselage. Only problem now is that I only have the 6in rolls of flite metal and this aircraft has a lot of big panels that would also require the 12in flite metal rolls. That is a real drawback living on norway trying to source this stuff as it normally take a couple of weeks before it shows up. Anyway, still more winter (building time) to come so I should have plenty of time.
