I had an amazing weekend weather wise and was able to fly the L-39 with my new C.G.
All I can say is that the just is now an all around perfect flying jet. Those of you who have seen it fly can attest to how great it performs. The short final was always a bit of a mystery however.
Now the jet is ROCK SOLID all the way down to the tarmac and slows down and lands like a trainer!! 100 % predictable...period! I squeaked them on the runway all day yesterday and all of the weird ballooning tendencies on short final are gone!!
The correct C.G. for the L-39 is 4 5/16” from the leading edge of the wing at the fuse.

I was spotting for Dom last year at the D.O.G.S. meet where he flew the heck out of the L39 (I shot the video on the RCJetmodels Web Site) and I remember that he said the landings were tricky, I spotted for Dom for one flight yesterday and like Dom said it look like a trainer coming in... Very Smooooooooooth.
Fei Bao has a winner with this bird with the suggested CG that Dom posted.

Hey Dom, Im in the process of putting one of these together myself, 80% through the build- Just a couple of pics to show install at this point. Unlike you guys Im uping the power as it will run a PST1300j
Ive utilised a carbon fibre housing that I made to shield to servos from the heat both top and bottom. The same kind of concept as you would use with a full bypass but with plenty of cooling potential.

Just like my Panther and the late F-5E I upgraded the main landing gear door cylinders on my L-39. In addition to the BVM cylinders I changed the geometry to maximize tork at the hinge line. Here are the before and after pictures. When I get a new transmitter, I will fly this jet first to test the new transmitter as well as these gear door updates. I’ll keep you posted.

Well I flew the L-39 yesterday. We had a 45-60 degree crosswind that was 15 MPH steady with gusts to 27 all day. Despite that the L-39 flew magnificently. All landings were awesome and right on centerline. The L-39 just flies so well in all conditions. My landing gear door mod worked since all doors stayed closed during all flights!! This model just continues to impress me!!

Great news Dom!
I plan to build an L-39 for EDF with big power. It will be cool to fly them side by side and compare.
I won't have to use all that funny foil stuff that I see in yours, though!

I'm a long time friend of Lewis Patton. He taught me how to fly R/C 27 years ago. Weather permitting, I'm planning on flying (Piper Turbo Arrow, white with met brown & copper stripes.) into Lebennon/Springfield airport this Sunday/Mon. If not, next weekend. Would it be possible for me to check out you L-39? I'm seriously thinking of going turbine, and that's the plane/kit that I think I want to get. FYI, there's a real one based at Bowman Field in Louisville.

Hello,
I have the same CG, but i have a big problems in maiden flight becouse i have to heavy in nose. When I wont to land with flaps, suddenly i have no elevator on my stick, so i land realy hard. The result was all my udercarige broke. The manufactory sugested that CG should be in the midle of main spare. I will try with that.

Me too, I have decided after seeing the video of one flying on Tams fan system to give it a go on my one also now... Iam going to start the EDF conversion as soon as I finish up with my current Raptor project.

Well with about 120 flights on my L-39 now I can say that this is one awesome flying jet. The jet still looks as new as the day I built her.......But.....I never really liked the color scheme. I have removed the L-39 from the classifieds and am thinking that I may strip her down and give her a nice Military color scheme complete with weathering, all the nomenclature and eventually a new cockpit. I can also take the time to upgrade things like installing the new HD FeiBao gear door hinges in place of the older style that is on her now. These new hinges are unbreakable!! This will keep me busy this winter and bring a whole new experience to this superb flying machine. If I move forward with this I will either document the “build” here or start a new thread.
Stay tuned.
