Hey Dom, you need a light set on your L-39 so you can compete in the Parade of lights at KY Jets this summer, you can't let Jed get all of the glory

I am heating up the garage now so that I can shoot the clear coat. I decided not to do any additional weathering. The jet looks great right now and I am sick of painting. Also my F-4 will be leaving the Global Jet Club factory on Monday and direct to me. I should have it by Wednesday or Thursday! I need to complete the L-39 make over before I start the Phantom so the timing is perfect.
Stay tuned for more L-39 pics after the clear coat.

I just brought the L-39 in from the garage and all I can say is WOW. It looks stunning!! I just removed the tape from the canopy (I have not cleaned up the edges yet). The jet looks so incredible that I don't want to fly it!! She does have 130 flights on her and I used to consider this my beater jet (although It was never in anything less than perfect condition).....meaning that I would take more chances with this jet than some of my others (windy conditions and such). The finish is a perfectly even matt finish that simply has exceeded my expectations. The pictures really don't tell the story. You must see it up close. I love it!! Now I need to get the turbine, landing gear and servos back in.

Getting my P-70 ready for reinstallation revealed a problem that could have cost me the jet. The tab on the phone connector was worn and not holding tension so the cable was not securely retained and could slide right out. You can see the difference between the worn, limp connector and the new one. I cut off the old one and installed a new connector using my crimping tool. The stripping / crimping tool and connectors are available from Radio Shack and a standard part of my flight box.

The P-70 was given a careful looking over and I discovered a missing case screw. This was replaced and all other screws were checked for tightness. The turbine was reinstalled and fresh cuts were made at all festo connections. I also added a couple wraps of electrical tape to the fuel and propane lines where they contact the inlet duct to prevent chaffing. It has never been a problem but you know how anal I am.

I'll get started stuffing things back into the wings on Wednesday or Thursday. I want to weigh the jet also when I am done. I think it was at 21 1/4 lbs empty (except a full UAT and after adding some additional nose weight) before the paint job. It will be interesting to see what it weighs now.

I reinstalled the aileron and flap servos in the left wing panel. The pushrods were then painted to match the surrounding area. Next the retract and door was installed followed by the tip tank. I just have to do the right side then I am going to get some pictures of the plane on its gear.
