I was at the PST field in Bangkok on Sunday, and got to fly the Reaction with a 1300R. Great handling airplane for smooth jet acro and a real *****cat at low speed, definetely a nice airplane for newcomers to turbines thru to experienced pilots.

Thanks Kraivuth et all for a great day at the field.

Hi David

I will have my Reaction there as well and I do fly mode 1 (bulldozer mode) not that upside down mode and mine is available as well if anyone wants a fly. I think I will do the change to the A123 instead of duralights..they are far more expensive and take a long time to charge and I have seen quite a lot of pack failures with some of the guys up here with them. I know the A123 are reasonably new but have been doing a bit of research on them of late and spoken to a few guys here that use them and they swear by them. All I can tell you I was shocked when I got the call from Glen and I drove out to his place last night and saw what you see in those pics. I have heard about the Lipo issues but had never seen it until last night.

Hi,
I use A123 cells for all sevices after a Lipo fire in the nose of my Reaction (see thread) however I am advised by Wren Turbines their ECU does not like 6.5volts so I have changed to a 3300 Lipo which I can get at for the ECU.

Hi post 385 shows the lipo fire in the nose cone destroying 5x 2100 lipos.

However friends helped save the day and was lucky to have the plane intact . Yesterday had 8 x 9 min flights with the S/Sport which fly's this with good authority ( no nose weight required due to nose extension) What a nice aircraft to fly, had no problems at all with landings and approaches a thoroughly good fly in every way possible.

Regards

David

David,
I'm sorry if this was already posted and I missed it. What is your final weight dry or at least with empty fuel tanks?

Hi Jeremy

I just got back late last night from Wanagartta Jets after a 16hr driving time done over 19 hrs in one day...its a long way from there to Brisbane. Had a great time as usual and it was fantastic weather. Had quite a few flights even did a duo with David Gladwin that started to look pretty good so a few of the guys said. The Lipo thing was a post I put up about 2 weeks ago here is the link http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_85..._1/key_/tm.htm
Its a shocker so I am converted to all A123 now and they worked great. I looked at my emails when I got home and I see one there from Fly Eagle Jets with the tracking numbers for my 1/7th scale F15...I hope it arrives by thursday

David,
I have never weighed it , I just know I could not make it lighter and there is no ballast.

I suspect I use about 1.2 ltrs of fuel for 9 min as it lands consistently with the fuel level in a line half way below the clunk outlet tube and the bottom of the metal stopper on the tank i.e. around 35% full. Very nice when they are queuing up to land and there is a dead stick among them.

Best Regards

David

However I do think a Wren 160 is a tad too much for this. The old formulae comes back into play again, more thrust needs more fuel makes more weight needs more thrust...... .......... ........

Skywarrior,
Fair enough.

Here's another question for all. What or where are you using for a pilot? 1/5 scale? 1/6? Link? Help me make this my first jet with a pilot!

Thanks!

Smaller than that I think. I am sure mine is a 1/7th sale jobbie. Same as the old MGA pilots. Fits well, I wouldn't want to use any bigger.

Hi Dave,

I have seen pics with the MGA pilot, same as i have in my BVM Maverick DF Machine, also mid thread, B777 has a few pics, with Wall-e, and another i cant recall rite now, maybe Eve, in his yellow reaction, so maybe 1/7 scale.
Im going with a movie figureen i think, but havnt been to the toy shop to buy yet!!! lol.

Hi Mark,

Great to hear ya time at Wangaratta was good, i just got hm from Surfers fri night, thought about coming down to Vic for the rally, but just wrong timing this year.

Wow i just looked at the lipo fire pics, what can we say, bloody mess.
Incredible the whole building didnt go up!!!!
I sure dont know what were heading for with sum of this stuff, and not sure what batterys im gonna use in future, for sure they have to come out for charging, live in fire bags, and maybe we will survive.

Is the fire damage covered by insurance ???

Looks like it had a Simjet Nexus in it ??? that would have made it go well ???

Keep the info coming, hope your F15 meets all your expectations-

Regards Jeremy.

Hey Guys -

Thought someone might be interested in a couple of building modifications I incorporated into the build for my Recation ARF.

Thought I might want to get into the cockpit at some later time for some reason, so mounted the canopy using #2 phillips panhead sheet metal screws. Spaced them 1" apart. When I got to the wing-to-fuselage fairings, decided to use the same mounting method. Found this to be much faster and easier than trying to glue the fairings into place (Looks pretty neat too, at least to me). Attachment is at least as strong as glueing.

Below are a few pics to give you an idea of how the screws look. By the way, I got them from Micro Fasteners.

Hi David,

How did your Wangaratta flying go, Did you get lots of time on your Reaction???

Intrested to know how you feel about the PST 1300R in it after some more flying,

Also intrested to know what size Duralites you have used, and if your going thru a powerbox for dual rx feed.

Just got my copy of RCJI, great article by you on the Reaction, looking foward to part 3.

Cheers Jeremy.

Jeremy -

I might consider a pilot later . . . gotta take out about 40 screws to get into the cockpit.

Will get some pics posted soon. You're not gonna believe what engine I'm using???
