RE: Fly Eagle Jet 1/9th Scale Rafale - Complete Build thread
has anybody had an issue with the retracts leaking at the nipples, they had ca on the tubing and around the joint where the fitting is attched to the cylinders i'm not sure if aeropoxy or jb weld will surfice, i been through the door cylinder ordeal and have that under control but i waited untill last to check the retracts any this setback surfaced, let me know if this is a common thing or i just got the arf from hell.

I just got the Rafale. I'm thinking of using a Wren Super sport. How fast do you guys think it's going with a p60? Is the CG where they say it is? And how 's the landing?

RE: Fly Eagle Jet 1/9th Scale Rafale - Complete Build thread
Guys I know that allot of us had problems with the door cylinders. The ones I had leaked and the replacements Fly Eagle sent did as well. I decided that before I would buy BVM or Precision Air cylinders I would troubleshoot them and find out why they did not work. First of, all of the cylinders I had leaked air when the shaft had a small amount of lateral movement. The cylinders did not leak in extended form or retracted form. The factory explained to me that they tested the cylinders they sent me before they left and were fine. That is more than likely very true but they do not check them correctly.
Please see the attached picture for explanation of what is really the cause of leaks.
1. Part A is the top fitting that the shaft comes out of and goes in.
2. Part B is the "O" ring that should get compressed by part C.
3. Part C is the washer that fits inside part A and provides the
Correct compression to not allow the shaft to leak air.
4. Buy a 5mm outside dia and 1.5mm to 2mm washer and place that one first on top of the "O" ring then use the provided which was to big and
put it last, it was there to secure it in place. This is crucial if not the small 1.5 to 2mm washer will fall inside
the cylinder. Once you put it all together with the shaft, compress the fitting A onto the cylinder. Use something over the shaft
that allows the fitting to mate completely.
5. Take a small airline tube attach it to the bottom nipple, compress the shaft into the cylinder( doors close position) then take
the small tube you attached and dip the tip inside oil. Pull the shaft, oil will be sucked in.
6. Attach the free end to the the other nipple and move the shaft in and out. This will oil everything inside and make it just perfect.
7. Pull the shaft up and remove the top airline and place it in the oil and press the shaft in. The resulting excess oil will be dumped.
The problem is part C; it is too large in diameter and does not fit inside part A. All the cylinders that I took apart (6) had this condition, which prevented the optimal operation of the cylinders.
I added an extra smaller washer between part C and the "O" ring. I assembled my cylinders with this modification and all my cylinders now work and do not leak air. I tested the cylinders in my airplane F-15C and they held pressure and allowed for at least 5 to 6 of up and down cycles with all doors opening and closing. I takes about 10 minutes to fix them with a vice, which most you folks have around. The washers can be purchased at you local hobby store. I sent this information to Fly Eagle and they replied with this
Hi Sir:
Thank you for quick reply. I will turn your suggestion to my company and make sure we do not have the leaking problem any more in the future products.
Best regards,
James Chen

Well almost done with my build but had problems with the door cylinders. Can't fly till solved. This really is taking too much time to fix. Using a Wren SS.

RE: Fly Eagle Jet 1/9th Scale Rafale - Complete Build thread
Hi
I'm building the edf version of the Rafale and also had leaking door cylinders. I threw mine in the bin and replaced with Airpower ones which are perfect so far. I have a problem with the main oleo's which are too soft and model "sits" down when fully assembled. Has anyone else encounted this and is there a simple remedy?.

Hi guys...just got my Rafale today...Iam buying a Jetcat P70 for it.
Anyone out there fit one in already?
Is there enough room and/or CG issues?
Thanks, Ralph

I have fitted a Jetcat p70, but have not yet checked the cg. The P70 fits in no problem.
I test ran the turbine today & noticed the rear bodywork gets very hot. Has anyone noticed this on theirs & if so has it been a problem?

RE: Fly Eagle Jet 1/9th Scale Rafale - Complete Build thread
Just checked the CG & it is perfect. I fitted the P70 as far forward as possible, almost touching the fuel tank. The UAT is lying flat on the front of the forward equipment tray. There are two 1500 Rx lipos & one 2000 turbine lipo in the nose. I also placed an additional air tank in the nose for the brakes. The original two tanks are linked together & used for the retracts & gear doors.
Keep everything reasonably far forward as possible & there are no CG issues. I have not yet fitted a pilot, so that will also help the CG.

Alright, turbine experts. I may have the oppurtunity to aquire an AMT 180SP. Does anyone have any experience with this turbine and will it be complete overkill for this airframe. I'm aware that I can turn it down, but I'm concerned about size and weight. I read the above post about the Jetcat P-70 fitting with no problems, but the AMT is about 1 pound heavier. What are your thoughts on the CG using that AMT? The diameter between the Jetcat and the AMT are about the same. I would sincerely appreciate opinions. I'm not trying to overpower an airframe, rather I have a great oppurtunity with this AMT. It can also be used in a bigger airframe in the future which is a big plus. Thanks!

Sorry did not see your post. The wings are held in position by clamping onto the Main spar and in addition there is a tapped M3 hole on the underside of the fuslage at the front of the wing that takes a M3 screw. This tightens up against the ali anti rotation pin at the front of the wing. On our first flight we did not realise the front screws were needed, but noticed the wing gap opened up a little at the front, so they are necessry. Make sure the anti rotation pin has a small flat to help resist it being pulled out. The method of fixing the wing has worked fine and does make a very quick model to set up on the flying field.

To be honest I would not think one of these would fly out of Harwich. I have seen Rambo fly many jets out of there but the raf needs quite a lot of length to get off (with a 14lb turbine). Mind you I need everything in my favour when I fly jets..... Coward thats me .
But honestly I would not think it would get off in the length of Harwich

What is the largest diameter turbine you can fit in this airframe?
I'm not looking to overpower it but my tubine is an older kit version so it is slightly larger than newer turbines of similar power.
