I have one with a Wren 44 Gold. It flies great & lands real slow. I threw away the supplied tailpipe & fitted the Wren pipe. This keeps it light.

The landing gear looks fragile, but is actually very strong. I have had about 100 flights with no sign of wear & tear. I give all the joints a little oil occasionally.

Edit. Some advice. When you get the landing gear, remove every allan screw one at a time & apply some loctite. If you do not, the gear starts to fall apart after a few flights.

Yes, you have to remove the screws and put some loctite. I learned it the hard way. It's very strong gear. They are coming out with a new generation L/G set and should solve these problems that we are complaining about. We still have some club member's JL F-16 waiting for the new legs.

Hey Guys,

I am working on the JL 1/6 scale F-16. Could you show some pictures of the main gear door installation, such as, position of the air cylinder and gap between gear door and fuse. [8D]

Hummingbird, I fly at the Peeler's field in Madison. If you would like to see the quality of the JL F-16 gear, send me a PM.

Yes I have some info,

Installing the gear doors is a royal pain. Unless you have experience with another F-16 kit you will be totally clueless. If they are not perfect, they wwill not work. There is very little room for the main gear door cylinders, so plan wisely.
Tailpipe is thin and fragile, but it should be good for a couple of flights. Use until it rusts out.

If you use JR standard-size servos, you will have to modify all servo mounts as they are made for something else.

For the ailerons, you can only fit 50oz "thin wing" aileron servos............unless you change the servo location closer to the root.

The rudder mechanism is excellent. You will have to tap a 2-56 thred on the fwd fin pin so you can attach it with a screw to the fuselage mount.

Good luck,

David

PS mine will have a JC Rabbit.

Thanks for the info.........

Yes the bug bite me.........about 10 yrs ago. I plan to put everything motor/servo/electronics/air system wise from the Falcon in the F-16. So I'm really not out too much money on the Falcon. I used some R/C things I sold recently to pay for the Falcon so it wouldn't have too much outta pocket expense for me.

I plan to take my time putting the F-16 together and possibly making it a little more scale than it comes (but nothing crazy)

Yeap, the kit could use a "bird slicer" on the nose, a Threat antenna here and there.

If you go to the Avonds website, they have all sorts of scale upgrades for their F-16, which is a little bit larger than JL's. I used some of the upgrades on one of my YA F-16's and it came out pretty good, but you could tell the accessories where out of scale. The JL kit is larger than YA's so it may actually look alright.

I actually made decals for the landing gear and all the air cylinders and it adds a nice touch.

We have my JL F-16 dialed in and it fly's like it is on a rail. I have had NO problems with the landing gear or brakes at all.
I am approaching my first main tire change. Great airframe. Light and Very well engineered.
I wonder what the actual weight of the 1/6 scale are coming in at. I think Dante told me somewhere around 35 LBS????
I would really love to have it, but My other turbine is a Artes Falcon 100. at 22 lbs. it is just to small.

It's actually quite incredible that for a model of that size the financial factor is the engine rather than the model itself. It must be the most affordable large scale jet kit in the market today. I too would buy one if I had a larger engine (and mo money!)
