Flyingflier,

Dreamworks (www.dreamworks.com) has all landing gear spares for pro-linx.
Guy, if the main spar is straight, try to fix the wing and boom. You can cut off the damaged wooden parts, fill with foam, trim with a knife and cover with monokote (even with tape). it will be a good exercise for you. Believe it.

Cant seem to find the spare strut on dreamworksrc.
I can find some for pro-links but not pro-lynx?
Anyone got a link to it?
Thanks

Okay guys
Opened up the wing and boom and all looks good. Will just fill it with foam and cover it.
With the retract I'll order a pair of oleos just in case something happens in the long term
My reason for the crash is that the fire extinguisher was annoying me so I decided to hit it while landing..

The D box at the front of the wing back to the spar is part of the main torsional structure of the wing, I think you ought to consider repairing it back to its original condition, at the minimum if filling with foam reinstate the balsa outer skin and LE to give continuity to the D box structure.

You may be able to straighten the Olio leg if its not cracked, have a browse on the internet, If I remember correctly you have to flame heat the ali until the flame changes colour before trying to straighten the bend.

Thanks Mike.
I think ill will fill the gap with foam and then place a balsa sheet over it. Then finally cover it.
I may also order another wing just in case I want to replace it sometime.
Also ordered 2 spare oleos if another one bends over time. Will try to bend the other one back in the mean time.

Just found a photo of the takeoff before the crash landing. In the photo you can see the fire extinguisher which unfortunately no one was watching ( including myself ) when I landed
I think I learnt a lesson

Don't forget the LE stock as well, otherwise all the backwards bending will be taken by the TE in compression, reinstating the LE will reduce this by holding the D box together in tension, scarf joint the LE stock into the existing about 45 degs will do, looking at the damage it will also need a new ply Root Rib as well, this is just the sort of repair that give me a warm glow when I do it, very satisfying to see it all complete.

Hi all,

I have a generic question - how often do you change your clunks / filters etc?
I've found that after around 25 flights I need to start changing stuff, my fuel is filtered several times before it is mixed, and after it is mixed it is filtered again before it reaches the fuel tank.

The ceramic clunk in my Sprint was nearly completely clogged up and so I changed it (signs of this is reasonably easy to tell - slow startup, more delay in throttle etc). I did notice that the final filter in my fuel lines was perfectly clean and did not need to be changed / cleaned. Can the ceramic ones be cleaned? or are they simply disposable?

While it is easy to get at the clunk in the Sprint and other Boomerang, what about other planes? My Viperjet (Under construction) will have 2 fuel tanks that are essentially glued to the fuse, and the clunks may not be easily accessible.

Thanks,
Rob

Rob

Only a guess, but do you empty your tanks after a flying session? if you don't that could be the reason behind the clogging, it could be Algae forming in the water bottom created under the fuel by condensation, quick question is the contaminant brown?

Hi Mike,

I don't empty my tanks every time, my logic was that my planes are stored in a dark enviroment that the algae typically wouldnt grow in... I will do this from now on.

The contaminant is closer to black..

Thanks,
Rob

Mike, do you use an algeacide additive in your fuel?

I don't use any additives in my fuel, but then I don't leave any fuel in my tanks and have never had a problem with Algae growth, as far as I understand it the Algae lives in the water feeds on the fuel, but I am not sure about needing daylight it certainly would not get any daylight in a full size aircraft's fuel tank for which the additives where a solution.

I was thinking of algae growth not just in the fuel tank, but in the fueling can and other jugs holding kero.

I don't keep my fuel in a fuel bowser, but in a 25lt plastic barrel, when I trasfer into my fuel bowser I use a "Mr Funnel" filter that will not allow water to pass, this seems to work quite well as I have never had a filter of any kind block or even look as though they are getting contaminated, working it all out it seems before my fuel gets to the turbine it is filtered six times.

I have never used a fuel additive or Mr. Funnel or anything special. I never take the fuel out of a plane. I have left it sit literally for years. But I have never had an algae issue. Perhaps there is already an anti algae ingredient in the fuel I buy, but never an issue for over ten years!

I suppose it all accords to where you live, the chance's of high risk of condensation and the formation of a water bottom in the fuel, obviously we do not have the same problems as full size airliners than fly intercontinental and at vast heights comparatively.

If you dont use a Mr Funnel or similar separator to remove water before filling your fueling station, then you will have water in your fuel. Bit of water wont do the turbine any harm but will cause the algae to form.

My Boomerang has over 200 flights and the tank is still clean. My fuel is filtered through a Mr Funnel into a mixing drum where I add the oil, this then is filtered again through the Mr Funnel into my fueling station, which has a inline filter before the pump. The fuel then has to pass through another filter which is in the fill line on board the aircraft, so no dirt can actually get into my fuel tanks.

But I live in Louisiana where the humidity is way beyond horrible. Still, never any algae!

In that case you are possibly correct in your assumption that the fuel you buy may already have an additive in it to prevent Algae growth, it would certainly make sense in a high humidity area.

Well, I'm in hot, humid Florida and I'm burning K-1 from Lowe's, so I doubt that it has an algaecide additive. Perhaps I should look into this Mr. Funnel gizmo. Never heard of one.

American made product, used a lot in the fullsize aviation world, you can fill it to the top with water and you wont get a drop out the bottom!
