RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Started my new P80SE with Kero for the first time yesterday, I was amazed at how well it started each time we gave it a go yesterday - the turbine didnt hesitate even once!
I'm in awe of these machines..

skaap2k,
I share the same opinion, my P80SE with the kero burner starts even better and smoother than my P120SX.
The P80SE is a very nice engine for the cost we pay.

Dam do you guys work for Jetcat
I'm going to order my plane today
and having seen what you guys are telling me
I guess I will drink the Koolaid and get me a Jetcat p80 se
Ok one more thing should I get the kero start.
And what do think about going with a123's

If you are new to jets then get the Kero start, you then will not need gas, one less thing to worry about and most turbines now days are going over to Kero start, it will be the only option soon.
A123's are recommended, much easier to handle and you can get the ECU on the JetCat modded to allow the use of a three cell A123 as well.

Hey Folks, sorry for all the questions..
I've seen a lot of pictures with people raising the nose gear off the rails in the kit - is this necessary for the build? if so.. pls let me know!
Rgds,
Rob

All depends on the length of your main legs, the purpose is to get a small amount of positive incidence on your main wing, most sets of gear need the packing and the amount varies according to what set you have bought, the packing piece needs to be only as long as the retract to allow the steering arm to clear, also try to get the steering arm for the front olio below the retract cover to make the instalation easier.

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I got the Pro-Lynx set, i'll have a look at how much I should put underneath the front wheel later tonight.
One last thing for today, I'm struggling to put a t-piece onto my brake line since it's a smaller diameter than the standard airline... any tips??
Rgds,
Rob

I have pro Lynx also. If I remember correctly mine came with the spacers supplied.
As for the Air line take a small set of needle nosed pliers and stick the nose of the pliers into the airline.
Then just open the handles to stretch the airline.

Fianally got the Sprint dialed in to my liking and I have to say it is far more responsive than the Elan, turns tighter, faster (Jets Munt 90) and lands a lot slower, should have bought one of these a long time ago, absolutly the right choise for a first turbine with small control throws, and can be a lot of fun with higher throws, but much much easier to land than the Elan on a small patch I think all in all I like the Sprint better, even though it does not look as nice, perhaps a re cover may be in order over the winter, perhaps even glass it to give it more durability.

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi Folks!
So, my Sprint is just about ready to go - after an intense fight with the nose gear (getting the air line in!)
One problem though - mounting the turbine, if I push the supplied bracket against the fuse formers (which I would assume are straight?) the turbine is clearly pointing the wrong direction!
How can I ensure the turbine is straight and wont move once mounted in??
Thnx!
Rob

If I have understood your question, you need to mount the turbine into its clamp and then offer it up to the horizontal mounts in the fus, that should do it.

Ah yes, well...
So, If I mount the turbine to it's brackets outside of the fus, then I cant get the turbine in at all - the brackets are too wide, so, I took the turbine out of the bracket, put the bracket in, then mounted the turbine..
Looking top down, the turbine is clearly pointing off to the side, it seems like the brackets are kind of offset..
I'll work on it a bit more and get some pics I think...

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Ah just remembered you are using a P80, you may find that the turbine is up against a former below it, try putting the turbine in without the brackets and see where it sits, you may have to releave the formers and possibly the side supports to allow it to sit down correctly.
The P80 is a large turbine compared to the others that most use in this airframe and you may have to releave all the formers and mounting brackets to get it in, hopefully someone who has done it already will come on and advise you, the P80 is also heavy and you may have to put a lot of weight in the front to compensate, I would suggest using the heaviest batteries you can to avoid unneccesary lead. I have a Jets Munt 90 in mine and still had to put 200grms of lead in the front, but then I don't use a UAT so that extra weight is not in front of the C of G.
Mike
EDIT: just had a thought, if you can find a clear glass or plastic bottle the same dia or approximately the same and put that in place you will be able to see what is stopping it sitting correctly, don't forget the packing needed to get the JetCat on the centre line that will raise the turbine and will minimise the amount of releaving the formers need.

I had to add 3/8 hardwood under the mounts of my P-80 to get it to be level. I also had to trim the mount brackets to get them to fit in the space provided. They are way too wide to fit between the fuselage sides.

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi All,
Got the turbine in - didn't need to raise the turbine, it clears all the formers, the distance isnt equal all around, but doesnt touch.
Maidened her on Sunday - WHAT A THING! messed up a bit on the flap-elev mix, and was a tad on the sensitive side, never the less, brought her in with no flaps, landing less than perfect on a windy(ish) day.
Had to put weight in the nose to balance though, probably 200g of weight up front, cant wait for the next day out!
Thanks to everyone for their advice & help Video coming soon!
Cheers,
Rob

Get the best servo's you can afford, they will always stand you in good stead for future projects, if you think you may sell this one with the servo's left in then then I recomend Hitec 5645 for flaps, Hitec 5625 for elevator and ailerons, use what you like on the steering, for the rudder if its a heavy turbine then use 5645's.
On the turbine front, I am very pleased with my Jets Munt M90, very light and kero start, acceleration is on par with the quickest turbines available, about 4sec from stable idle to full power, but from just above idle to 80% power is about 2 seconds, I have an idle up on my retract switch that gives me a high idle works very well.
If you want the less noise solution then the JetCat P80SE is the answer, acceleration about the same, maybe a little slower, but nothing you would notice, well I can't.
The only thing about all the Boomers is the Z bend push rods, WHY, its like having the desire and being able to affored to buy Aston Martin, but getting a British Leyland???????

They are OK if you like Cast Iron Blocks, siamiesed ports and three bearing cranks, oh yes and an idle gear to drive the camshaft, the ADO50 was one of the worst engines ever made for performance, so many modifications needed to make it anywhere near the competition it became an expensive lemon.
