RE: Flyeagle F18F
Hello Olivier,
Looks like you mods are worth the extra work.
I have a question. Where do you get these winded carbon rods from. Normal rods have the fibers in axial direction. I suppose yours are orientated 45°.
I still did not start building up my F-18. Have an other project to finish. I ordered a new Frank turbine with around 300N of thrust. It will be available in spring. An other guy from Luxembourg (Frank Schroeder) flew his F-18 with a prototype engine on the Jet Power 2009.
Thak you for all the good tips you give in this forum.

The 300N turbines ( Behotec/Frank) would be nice on the 1/6th scale F-18F.
I saw Frank flying at Jet Power. Very nice.

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Thank you for information Olivier,
Do you use an electric tool to wind the carbon rowings (Lathe or electric drill) on the core?
Do have a technique to fix the rowing ends or do you use only a single rowing?
Best regards

I fix the tip of the row on the core with thin CA. Then wetten the raw with epoxy and wind on with a lathe. When the rod is dry I rectify it on the lathe ( short lengths only ).

Yep...sending to Rex Briant in Canton, GA right away!!! Oops, i'll just hand them to me and save on shipping
Rusty...your just upset because I called you out on the buddy box thing. It's ok...one day you will be able to handle a bigger jet. It just takes time, man.
Ok...Rusty is my hero! He is the best jet pilot in the world and Dave Shulman can take some lessons from him. I wish I was like Rusty in wealth and ability. He is the MAN! Rusty is the author of flight...should I keep going? Or have I replentished your humility?

Hello guys,
I've had a problem on landing last week-end.
When applying breaking power, the plane abruptly veered to the right. This was so brutal that I couldn't get it back on track even after the brakes where released.
The plane continued on a side sleep for about 5 meters before stopping.
That broke both outer L/ inner R main flex plates.
I took the opportunity of changing them to make some pictures and do a small toturial since I had so many questions about this concept.
First of all the flex plates consist of a series of carbon and plywood plates setup in layers without any gluing. This is important to get the most of the plywood characteristics ( shock absorbing capability ) and carbon fiber ( flexibility ).
On the F-18F I have, in sequence from the bottom to the top :
1 plywood plate of 3 mm ( the purpose of this one is to transmit the landing gear peak efforts to the carbon fiber plate without braking it )
1 carbon plate of 2 mm ( this one is providing the spring effect and flexibility of the assembly )
1 plywood plate of 6 mm ( absorbs the gear efforts and breaks in case of hard landing/huge loads, also holds the blind nuts)
On the following picture, the bottom plate is the thick one that comes to the top in the plane.
This composite plate shall not be glued to the formers neither because the damping effect comes form the layers being able to move relative to each other and relative to the formers.
Here is a view of the composite plate in my hands:
This as a consequence will enable you to fully service the gear from the bottom ( gear bays ) without having to remove the engine and saddle fuel tanks. This will save you a lot of time since the gear is the critical component on this jet and needs continuous maintenance.
Here how the plates shall be changed ( note that only the thick plate will brake in case of problems so cut a couple of them initially):
And the assembly back in position:
The plates hold in position because of the indent made at each end.
With this setup, I have to change the thick plate every 25 landings. This setup actually saves the whole structure from being damaged.
After checking the brakes, I found out that the left side braking compound of the disc brakes completely rubbed out and gave up suddenly. This actually locked the left wheel. It looks like the disc compound used by FEJ is not up to the task. Also the drilled braking track of the hub does stress the braking compound excessively and get it to un-glue from the disc surface. So this area needs some redesigning to get reliable.
So I've reverted to the older o'ring brake system until I have finished re-designing the disc system ( damn...[:@])

RE: Flyeagle F18F
Hello everybody,
I'm a brand new french member on RCU. In februar 2009, I make order for an HD F18 1/7 "BOUNTY HUNTER" from FEJ. This is not my first jet. I've an ANGEL from Aviation Design with a P160 and a big BAE HAWK from SKYGATE with a P200. I receive my F18 in june 2009 . For information I 've start the build only in november (no time to start before) . Now I've just some details to finish it ....and I hope to start the P200 SX for the next April . Since many weeks I read all the precious posts. I thank all the members from this forum for informations, pictures and essentials values for the first fly. Later I send you back pictures and all informations frommy plane . For example I've all datas for the xls file from OLNICO and many pictures about internal installation, choices, personnal options. Thank you everybody to read me and sorry for my bad english.

Hi Alan
I think I no the kit you got it was owned by a mate of mine here from Ireland,if it is the one then it is the light version the same as my own because they where bought around the same time ,mine is finished apart from the the thrust pipe as I am waiting on a pipe from another company as I would not trust the stock pipe with the P200 .
cheers
Andreas

RE: Flyeagle F18F
I have decided to de laminate the main gear plates and do what that Olnico has done and put some carbon sheet in-between the plates which is a very good idear.Im using the upgrade bits not making new ones like he has done just taking the glass bit out and going to replace it with carbon but not glued in the middle like a leaf spring on old cars.Just use a heat gun to warm up the parts and a paint scraper down the joint and they come apart quite easy.I have orded some carbon sheet of the best shop on the net Ebay pitty they dont do PST bubble traps on there. I will have a look at how the retracts sit when in the plane to the relation of angle of attack we dont want that nose pointing down do we.I think the flyeagle kit is very good and u get all the bits i have a problem with the exhaust though it has a split in it right where the bell fits not good flyeagle said spot weld it so i have orded the best pipes u can get off Tam the best u can get .Here are some pictures to look at look forward to some comments

Alan,
Even if this pipe had no crack, it would just be good to go to the bin.
The fixing tabs are mounted on the thin outer wall....
Good to see that you went for my upgrade technique.
Also if you need some good quality retract walls and truniion pin, I can make some for you.
I have a set here ready to go to Rex. I can make another set on request...
