What the packging from Fults is showing and how TBM shows you in the photo's on how to set it up on the Shock Jet is two differant things. When I was running a Fults, I set it up with the spacer in the middle of the two nylon mounts and the stearing arm at the top.

Here is my set up. I use the LARGE Spacer in the middle.

OK, so if I put the spacer in the middle of the twi firewall mounts, then what is keeping the whole fork from riding up/down and keeping the spring away from the fuselage?

Sorry if I am being thick headed on this, I am having trouble picturing it.

OK - I think I follow you now. You have both the spacer AND a wheel lock between the firewall mounts. The wheel lock is keeping the assembly from moving up and down.

When I was said and done, mine came out looking pretty much exactly like the picture posted above by FW-190 (except the brake which I am not using).

Hooker:

I thought I saw a while back in the thread that you had hysoled a few of those airline today clips to your gear to secure the brake tubing. How has that woked out? I had the same idea in mind for mine.

Have a P70 in mine. No Pix as yet. To get the P70 as far forward as possible, Relieved the fuse bottom just enough to allow the P70 front cover to sit just behind the former in front of the P70. To mount turbine I cut the mount tabs down to just the tab area containing the four mount compression bolts. Then mounted this to the Shock jet rails. Relieved the former at the turbine front just enough to allow access to P70 cables and Festo fittings. Did not want to relieve it enough for the FOD screen - although I really would rather the FOD screen to be on. Instead I covered the fuselage intakes with some sections of window screen, the plastic variety in case it would come loose... If you need more info could try to get some images up later today. This SJ has had several different turbines mounted, but the P70 is the largest. This P70 is about four years old. Still pushes the SJ vertically quite well with a full load of fuel (Jettech tank) and after a little fuel is burned vertical is almost unlimited.

The FOD screen thing was really bugging me so I removed the former completely as others have done. At first I was worried that this would take away some of the side-to-side support in the fuselage, but then I realized that with the turbine bolted in, there was a big hunk of metal running side-to-side. so i don't think there should be any problem.

I agree probably no need to worry. AND nothing is better than a FOD screen mounted directly to the turbine. My thinking was with the P70 the SJ endures more stress. In this SJ the area/former at the wing front of the fuse has been hacked pretty good to allow the Jectech Fuel cell to fit. Then we remove the former at the rear of the wing... Seems we are modifying by removal in several areas. That said have not heard of a fuse failing. This SJ had a Super Bee then a JJ 1400 and now the P70 will probably go back to one of the smaller turbines after the Boomerang Sprint is completed and the current SJ P70 goes in the Sprint. Both of the smaller burners fit fine with the rear former in place.

Gents,

Given that this is my first bird where I had to use carbon fiber (C/F) push rods, I figure it is best to be safe than sorry. With regards to the rudder and elevator C/F push rods, do I just glue the threaded tips to the C/F rod with JB-Weld and wait until it cures or am I missing something? I see that there are pin holes on the threaded tips... Will the JB-Weld be strong enough to hold the threaded tips on the C/F rod?

Thanks

Ken

I just used JB weld per the instructions and it seems fine. You will see a page or so back that Ghinshaw recommended not using the C/F rod for the elevator and using a titanium turnbuckle instead. 31/2 inch should be perfect. I bought 3" first which was too short. I bought 4" which is fine if the servo is flipped so the control arm is farther from the elevator. 3 1/2 should be just right with the servo output closes to the elevator.

Thanks, I went ahead and ordered the 3.5 inch titanium turnbuckle. For some reason, I did not trust the C/F set-up... Thanks Again Ken

You can use the carbon fiber setup, just run 4-40 wire all the way through it, glue the ends with hysol and now you have a super strong pushrod with out having to buy turnbuckles.

I presume CG is measured as with other aircraft - with the UAT full and the main fuel tank empty?
