I completed my turbine waiver test today with my Shokjet and K80, now I just have to wait on AMA to get my turbine waiver number/card. Big thanks to Mike (rcguy59) for his help with my training. I'd also like to send a big thanks to Roy for making it easy to schedule the check ride, both of these guys are outstanding ambassadors for turbine flying and feel fortunate to know them.

rcguy59 coined a new term today to describe flying a Shokjet, he called it "Thumb Candy," I could not agree more!

Thanks for the kind words, Tom. Here's a picture I took today of Tom and his Shokjet. Tom is on the left, The gentleman on the right is none other than Molar Mender himself. He is our local turbine CD and was kind enough to come out on a VERY chilly day to administer the waiver test to Tom. A little less than 3 years ago he signed ME off in the same place. God, I love this hobby!

I flew out at the Aeromasters a few times around 2001-2002 but they did not seem interested in new members because I never could get anyone to engage in any kind of conversation so I stopped going out there.

I kinda dropped out of the hobby between '97 and '05, so I was not around then. When I got back into the hobby, I went back out to the Aeromasters a few times, but the guys I had flown with earlier had moved to the RDRC club, so that is where I am now. Whole different crowd. The old Aeromasters field is closed now, they moved to a field further north at Franklinton so it is a farther trip from where I live.

To keep it on topic, I don't think anyone is flying jets at the Aeromasters club, at least not that I know of. There are at least 6 (that can count off the top of my head) at the RDRC field. There are two of us currently flying Shockjets right now. Mine has more thrust.

Okay so my wife buys me a shockjet for Christmas with most of the goodies except the turbine which she will buy, she had no idea what I would like to have.... neither do I!

I have is down to the following:
K80f
P80se
JC Rabbit

I hope to use this turbine in a Bobcat like jet in the future.

Tough question, they are all good turbines. I personally have flown the SJ with a Wren 54, Jetcat P70, and a K80.

Personally from my perspective only, the Kingtech Kerostart is the way to go. This because they are such a good value. I think the importer is running a Holiday Special at this time so you are able to save even more than normal compared to the other turbines. BTW I personally will not buy any new turbines that are not Kerostart.

They all run well, seem to last and have good service (have used service on all three Jet Central, Kingtech and Jetcat)

Now having said this the Jetmunts VT80 (Dreamworks) is interesting. Installation is so simple with just a Turbine and the Pump along with a battery. But have not held or seen one run, so just throwing it out there.

Actually, the ShockJet flies great on a P60-P70 size engine. I have a JetCat P80 in mine andit is a little overkill.You will have to do some cutting to get it to fit.I also have a Kingtech K80F in my Boomerang Elan and it is an excellent engine - most bang for the buck - and I think it will fit the ShockJet with out any modifications.

NONE of the turbines StevL listed will fit without some modifications to the airplane. I have flown them with the SuperBee, Rabbit, and K80F. All worked just fine. As for being useful in a future sport airframe, it's down to the Rabbit and the K80F. The K80F wins on price, hands down. The Rabbit produces more thrust in a smaller, lighter package. Both have a lifetime warranty. JetCentral's service and support are legendary. Kingtech, while being a relative newcomer, seems to have modeled their approach on JetCentral's. The Rabbit is produced in North America (Mexico) which makes the turnaround time for service very quick, not to mention the lower shipping cost. Both engines use Gaspar Espiel's brilliant ECU. Whichever you choose, good luck to you and let us know how it works out.

Hummmm... All those will fit in the SJ "WITH" modifications! The real Question is, "What Jet Do I want to Fly AFTER the SJ?" I have ran almost EVERYTHING inmy SJ with some good and some bad!! Now the last SJ I built for a guy in Neb. We put a Jet Central CHEETAH!! YES..... A CHEETAH.... OH MAN BOYS!!!! NOW THAT WAS FUN!!! We did turn it down to 20 pounds of thurst, BUT... He has a 30 pound turbine that can go into so MANY different models!!! Mod. were VERY, VERY EASY!! No more than if installing a P80 or a JC Falcon. So, now its up to you to decide what you want AFTER the SJ!!! Also, If you would like more info. Call me!!!! 816-528-3544 I will help in any way I can!!!

The last SJ I set up for a freind, we put a Falcon 120 and DID NOT turn it down. Ha. It's a rocket. He does fly it intel with his left thumb but for the size of jets you are shooting for afterwards it would have to be between the Rabbit or the K-80. I have both and have seen SJ's fly with both. It's a hard choice on those two which is why I have both. Ha. I have a 14# turbine in my SJ and still having a ball with it. 64 oz. and can fly from 8/12 Mins But just like Gerry and I stated a few post back, I will always want to have a SJ around. So Fig. that whatever turbine you buy, it will Prob wind up staying in the SJ. Ha. Ha.

I have a Rabbit and the 101 oz. TBM tank in my clipped-wing ShokJet. 10 min. flights with plenty of reserve. Plus, it hauls ASS!

RCguy, Do you have some good photo's of your K-80 SET-UP IN THE sj? I'm thinking about putting my K-80 in my Shock. Just wondering what you had to do to that back former.

I have made some more modifications since the above two photos were taken. The additional mods I made allowed me to get a FOD screen installed. It took a little more surgery but nothing a Dremel tool can't handle in a few minutes. I will post some more recent photos.
