RE: Maj. Woody's FeiBao F-4J Phantom
Hi Dom....congrats!!! Really looking forward to your build thread. I just ordered a GJC 1/9.5 F-15...going to try a P-80SE in her. I WILL own a Phantom some day and I am really looking forward to seeing how yours' goes together.

Wow am I tired. I just finished unpacking the Phantom. One of the things that Global Jet Club does for it’s customers is inspect your jet for quality assurance and then repack your jet in a heavy duty container. Don’t underestimate the importance of this. A perfectly good jet can leave the factory only to look like junk when it arrives due to shipping damage. I was thoroughly impressed with the carton and packing on this jet. The exterior of the carton was wrapped in several bands of heavy duty strapping tape and that was covered in several layers of packing tape!! It was like wrapping fuel tanks with carbon fiber bands. The carton was ½†thick heavy duty cardboard!! Inside I found the entire jet and every last component including bags of hardware wrapped in several layers of jumbo bubble wrap. These parts were not going anywhere due to the method they used to secure them to the box. Not only were slots cut into the box so that heavy duty tape could literally be wrapped around the parts but the cardboard dividers were tie wrapped together!! Look at me standing on the empty box. It just sags a bit and that is with all the internal structure removed. Bottom line is that you can be certain that your jet will arrive in perfect condition as did my Phantom.

Enough about the #@$%&! Box!! What about the jet. The jet is amazing. It looks even better than my first one. I had Global Jet Club apply the weathering and it is just perfect. They have some talented folks at their factory. I can’t wait to post the pictures of this bird. I will try to get some pictures and describe the jet in greater detail tomorrow. I can’t promise that you will see any pictures before Sunday when my wife comes home with the digital camera. This video camera sucks for taking pictures. I am really tired and going to put my daughter to bed now. Stay tuned!!

Dom - went with the "TY"....I know they fly great on a 120 size motor but I wanna build a super light airframe and see how one flies on an 80SE...sound be fun!!

My buddy had an F-15 like you are getting with a P-80 in it. Flew great.....fast and with plenty of power for most situations but lacked vertical performance. Overall, it flew fantastic. I am used to overpowered airframes with tons of vertical so when I fly a plane that is powered correctly, I am not used to it. I would suspect this is how my F-4J will perform. Plenty of power, decent speed and OK vertical with the Titan SE. My true style would be to have a P-180 in her but the extra weight and increased fuel consumption don't seem to be an equal trade off for more vertical performance.

Well I won't have any good photos for you till later when I get the camera back but here are some construction photos I took with the video camera. The main hatch and fuse have an excess amount of fiberglass on them. I marked off the area I wanted to trim and removed it with my dremel tool. Final cleanup was with a rubber sanding block and 220.

I inspected all bulkheads and glue joints for integrity, and found no problems. A very strong model.
Next I backed out all six screws at each wing hold down block (4...2 per side) and applied locktite to the screws before torking them down. I know those are stop nuts and don't need locktie but you know how I am.....I just can't help myself I then applied some thin ca to the fiberglass reinforcement plates...gluing them to the bulkheads.

I spent the rest of the day yesterday painting the engine bay and intake / fuel tank areas. Here are some before and after shots. Nice bright and clean looking! The area aft of the last bulkhead in the engine compartment will get BVM heat blanket and aluminum tape so that was not painted.

RE: Maj. Woody's FeiBao F-4J Phantom
The F-4J came with some nomenclature applied to the wings and fuse. I have a detailed set of nomenclature that I created and will use them to supplement what is already there. The only problem I will have is the "No Step" and "No Push" on the wings are a different size and style font than I used. I also do not care for the placement that the factory choose to apply them. These are sealed under the clear so I will have to live with it to avoid any major alterations to change them. These are some the nomenclature sheets I made...

The F-4J really looks nice. Global Jet Club did a great job with the weathering. It is hard to get a good feel for what it looks like from the pictures. The effect is very realistic and natural. Parts fit of the wings to fuse and fin to fuse is excellent. There is plently of detail molded into this model. A lot of it is raised and looks fantastic. Again the camera does not do a good job of picking that up.
