Behotec Turbines Users
Hello Jet Jocks,
I was wondering how many Behotec turbine user are out there? Which engines have been used? Any problems with the Kero start system?
I have, at present, a Behotec JB55 turbine in my YA F-18 Hornet. It seems to work well. But the engine has very few runs on it. How do others find the JB55 Turbine?
Regards,
DW_Crash

In our RC club, there are 2 fighters using the Behotec turbine. Most time ,they are flawless like other turbine. My single seat IDF Gowhawk insatlled Behotec JB-180,kerosene start. It is very powerful and fast response(4 seconds from idle to full). The other two seat one installed JB-130,propane start. It run smoothly and just need some adjust after changing the fuel to diesel.
It is very convenient .

Dear CPS,
Aren't you worried about the impurities in the diesel damaging the catalyst in the Kerostart glow element? Most diesel has some sulfur, wax and other garbage in it. Camp stove Kerosene is extremely clean. thoughts?
Great airplanes,

I've been flying the JB66 HP for two years now. First year on propane start, second year on kero start. No problems at all except for the last couple of flights. After 32 hours of run time and an estimated 175 starts, the starter o-ring is beginning to slip. I'll be sending it in to Peter at AltecareRC for an overhaul this winter.
I'm planning on a JB180 for next season.

...jim

Hi,Hector:
This IDF Goshawk is the fighter independent developed by Taiwan.(of course, also assisted by USA),so you can see it only in Taiwan. This model is built by Taiwan's model fan ,my friends, and you can review it in detail on the 90th Jet international magazine. There are many videos in YouTube and you can watch them by key-in"tony5548".

I began to use diesel + TCW3 for my Kerosene start JB-180.The thrust is still great and running smoothly except the fire in start procedure. After reducing the voltage of pump when start, this condition most improved.I thought the diesel is easier to buy than Jet-A1 in most country, isn't it?

1- Make sure your lines are primed
2- Make sure the battery voltage stays high enough i.e. you need a good battery, 3cell LiPo, at least 2,100mAh.
3- It is possible that your startup pump voltage (menu 41) needs to be increased a little. At low ambient temperatures, the pump might be a little more sluggish and might not be delivering enough fuel.
Please refer to the instructions on-line for a quick troubleshooting guide as well.

The issue is not winter or summer, Kero Start has been tested and operates even below 0 °C.

So, we have no JB55 users? Do I have the only one?

My Behotec 66 runs great! The kero start works very well. I would have liked to get a 55 to try out..

NO 55 here but I own a 66 and I have built a few planes for others with them in them as well and seens Don's go over and over. In the last 3 years that I have been exposed to these they work flawless and kero start is the best!!

RE: Behotec Turbines Users
Hi Guys,
I am still running one of the original Behotec KJ66's kits that I built 9 years ago! One of the best engineered engines that I have come across, it cost £1050. as a manual engine with Orbit ECU. After 5 years I changed this to Fadec taken from a Wren 54. The only problems that I have had are the combustion chamber coked up due to using 2stroke oil and twice the pre-load stuck on the front bearing.
Every part of it is as the original including the bearings! It used to be air start but I made a alum mount screwed to the plastic air intake to which I fitted a Wren starter. This engine is now in it's 3rd model (Rookie), I also have a Wren Super sport in a Falcon 120 (great fun) and a Jetcat P 80 in an Elan. Happy landings Mike T.
