Default How many jets have you owned and How long in hobby?

I just started flying jets in Feb. of 2007. Since then I have bought the following:

1 used Starfire II with turbine with AMT 180- Pilot error- stalled on base leg of landing - repairable

1 Used Boomerang (old XL before composite) with AMT 180 - crashed and destroyed at MSAB - servo failure - split flap on landing

1 new Boomerang XL - with a Rhino - Still flying

1 used BVM F-86 wth a P-60 - crashed and destroyed - servo/mechanical failure/still unknown as it when into a nose spin.

1 new Tamjets 1/6 F-16 with P-60 - crashed-mechical failure - airframe damaged - plastic servo arm melted causing loss of elevators

1 new Skymaster F-16 1/6th with Rhino - Flamout on landing - didn't make runway - damaged but very repairable

1 new Skymaster F-4 Phantom - pilot error - stalled on base leg of landing - lost wings and nose - everything else salvageable

1 new Fly Eagle F-16 "tiger meet" with P-70 - Maidened OCT 20 - flys perfect

1 new Fly eagle F-18 1/7th scale with Rhino - just purchased - waiting for delivery

Total approx cost: $50,300.00 (this doesn't include freight and all the little gadgets includeing the $5,000.00 trailer I bought) I'm afraid to add up that receipt file.

Is this the normal curve for this crowd? I think I need professional help. Someone please help me lol.

Hmmmm,

I started with ducted fan's in 1999, turbines in 2000
Well, lets see:

Y/A A4, ducted fan, never flown, sold to raise turbine funds

DL Aeromodels Cyclone 2 OS91 Dynamax crashed on flight 13 after the engine quit in a lousy place

BVM F16 Never finished, sold to raise turbine funds

Fiberclassics Kangaroo RAM750 Flown and sold

Aviation Design Exocet RAM750 Flown, loved it, collapsed landing gear tore off the nose, repaired and sold, still flying today

BVM Super Bandit PST 1300R Not finished......

CAI Razor PST1300R Still have

BVM Kingcat PST1300R Still have

Reaction 54 PST600R flown and sold

Fly Eagle jets Rafale PST600R Still have

Fiberclassics Eurosport AMT280SP flown, sold and still flying today

Trim Aircraft Spectre RAM750 sold to raise Super Bandit funds

Skymaster Grippen RAM750 sold to raise Super Bandit funds and still flying today.

I've also owned a CAI Raptor kit and another Aviation Design Exocet kit that I sold before starting.

Also had an air magic F15 that I sold but wish I still had...

There was another Kangaroo in there somewhere with a RAM750 but I sold that one as well.

Don't wanna know what I've spent, particularly when I consider how bad the Canadian dollar was when I bought most of it!!!!

I have been in modeling for 40+ years, had a turbine waiver for 10 months now.

Started with a Reaction 54 bought used with a P70, Will be flying again once turbine gets to CA and back.

Building a Yellow Stingray, planning to use a new MW44 Gold.

The last thing I want to know is what I have $pent on this hobby or even the value of any individual aircraft.

Started flying in 1985. Ducted Fans in 1989. Turbines in 2002.

Kangaroo/P120 - crashed on 13th flight from a combination of dumb thumbs and incorrect setup on servo linkage (by me)
YA F-18 Twin (single turbine)/P160 - sold after only 2 flights (decided it was too big for me to transport)
Facet 2300/P120, upgraded to Titan - I flew this one the most. Severely damaged fuse on a takeoff mishap at about 100 flights. Rebuilt the fuse and added retracts. Flew it another 50 flights. It's currently retired. (needed the turbine for the T-33 listed below)
Eurosport/P120, upgraded to Titan, upgraded to Merlin - traded to a friend for the YA F-18 listed above. (decided it wasn't too big to transport after all)
JMP T-33/Titan - I got one flight on it before I had to put everything on hold, due to relocating
YA F-18/Merlin - I got three flights on it before I had to put everything on hold, due to relocating

Only about 250 turbine flights so far.
Hope to start flying a alot more next year, after we get settled in the new house.

Man-if I planted 50k worth of toy jets in the ground like the originator of this thread has, I would be kicking myself for not investing in a full scale a/c!!!! 50k would go nicley toward a twin like a 310 or something[sm=wink_smile.gif]

I have been flying jets for nearly 2 years. I started out with a used mb-339 with a Wren 54III. Still have her and still fly her. I recently bought a new Tamjets a-4 and a Wren 54ss that is nearly finished. Been flying r/c for about 20 years. Still love my wwII warbirds too

I did the same thing Andy did, started with a $100.00 foamy in 2002, invested $50k in the first two years. Another 20 to 30 K in hobby related ventures, CNC, etc. Built over 20 Jets in the past 7 years, have owned and sold many others. Currently 6 Turbines, 5 RTF Jets, and about 4 in process of building.

It continues to be an incredible time to be in the hobby, that is for sure!

Been in RC since about 1980 but took a few years off for college, marriage, life, etc. Got into jets in 90 and turbines in 97.

Thorpe F-20 scratch built - sold
BVM Viper - pilot error - totaled airframe
BVM Viper - flew for years then sold to raise turbine funds - totaled by new owner on his 9th flight
DL Cyclone - flew then sold to raise turbine funds - totalled by new owner after several years of flying
Y/A F-18 w/GWM turbine - elevon servo failure - totaled airframe
Y/A F-18 w/GWM turbine - flew for years then sold - just remaidened a few weeks ago by new owner after years on the shelf
BVM Bandit w/RAM750 - flew for years then radio failure - totaled airframe
BVM Ultra Viper (DF) - engine quite in lousy place - totaled airframe
SM Gripen w/P120 - 26 flights in last three weeks since the maiden

It's been a riot and I've had the pleasure of meeting some awesome modellers along the way.

Hey only two of those were "pilot error" The rest was mechanical. I certainly could use more stick time on the big scale jets and I fully intend to be as skillfull flying those as I am my boomerang. Might be costly though!!!

lol, that is certainly a goal for all of us to achieve. I do have over 100 flights on my Boomerang now. I love golf - just not enough time to play it and be decent. I play maybe 2-3 company scrambles per year.

I am impressed by your flight record. Definitely something to strive for - much cheaper too!!

2 Graupner Hotspots radio failure on #1 in 2001, plane total loss. Hotspot#2 sold in 2008
DL MB 339 in 2001, sold 2008
CompARF Eurosport 2002, sold 2006
CompARF Rookie 2003 still flying
Yellow F/A 18 twin (twin turbines) built in 2003, never flown

Man that is some serious coinage in all of those jets. I don't feel so bad now lol. David you and I need to get together sometime, you are close - come to AR sometime and fly with us on the 4000 foot runway.

I have been in RC since 1986. If I were to do an average yearly expenditure on planes and other RC supplies, it would come to roughly $2250 per year. However, when you deduct the dollars that have been recycled (money from items sold) back into the hobby, the yearly average is much less and a bit more palatable.

All I wanted was to have one big 33% aerobatic plane and one turbine jet to go with all my other RC stuff.
Now I have three turbine jets and four engines while the big prop plane collects dust.[&o]
