RE: JR 7.4 volt servos.
I found this mentioned on the front page of the JR website, then when you dig in you can see some info on the new servos.

RE: JR 7.4 volt servos.
Based on the botched 12X release, if they are saying Jan 09 there is a remote chance we will see them by June.
By that time most of us will be on A123 batteries and it won't matter. A123 batteries are now very easy to get and
you don't have to worry about charging them in the airplane.

It would be great if JR would keep up with the capabilities of the higher voltage 2.4 receiver bus and make all of their servos capable of handling the higher voltages. Hopefully it is on the way throughout the lineup.

RE: JR 7.4 volt servos.
Won't we need to see a newer generation of powerboxes/buses/boards etc that allow 7.2v as a voltage output option now? Voltage per channel would be nice too so you could have 7.2v to some channels and 5.9-6v on others...?
I wouldn't want to run several of these bad boys (480oz/in torque!) in a single model without a powerbox or similar but currently they'll be limited to 5.9v-6v and thus back down to standard 8711 performance?

i saw a release from the Chicago hobby show where JR is bringing out a complete machined aluminum servo, top case and bottom case. supposed to be in the 450 in/oz class and will be 7.4v as well.

RE: JR 7.4 volt servos.
the heli guys have been running the JR 8717's on 2 cell lipo's for about a year now. Many people report no problems, but their does seem to be one or 2 that pop up each month that have mysterious "qualities".
And the spektrum/Jr 7100R reciever incorporates a 7.4v input and buss bar but also a regulated 5.2v ports for the throttle, rudder and gyro channel ports for the equipment that cant run on 7.4 v's
the technology is coming, just lagging behind for the jet guys it seems.

Had a couple of emails about them. First field tests show them to be very impressive indeed, being used by a top TOC pilot.
Power for these servos can be handled by the Powerbox Royal. This unit can switch voltages to 5.9 or 7 so the HV servos can be powered at a stable 7v and servos requiring lower voltage can be fed direct from the receiver which is supplied with a stable 5 v.
My own PowerBox Royal is installed in a Euro but bench tests show it to be a really superb unit and the data recording is a very valuable tool, plus of course 5 programmable channels, make life very easy !

David Gladwin.

RE: JR 7.4 volt servos.
ACT also sells servos to 7.5 volts.

ACT produces a lot of good stuff, I am using their gyros BUT it would help us enormously (and probably vastly increase their sales) if they published their web site in English !
