Xtreme Jets BD-5
Since this kit is released, has anyone built or flown one yet? Trying to decide on a new kit, but have not seen any build threads maiden flight threats on this model. In other words anyone bought one of these yet?
thanks.. I like to hear about this kit before I buy one.

RE: Xtreme Jets BD-5
A friend of mine had a real one for a few years. He changed a few things that really improved the looks of the jet. The nose was pointed more like a F16 and had vortex generators on the wing tips. I swear it wasn't much large than my 37% yak lol.

Frank,
Been out flying mine today. Take a look at the Abingdon jet meet thread and if not on there already there should be some pics tomorrow.
I bought mine from Anton at Jetpower Germany this year so it is the Coors Light scheme as above and I think the latest spec. Model flies well enough with my P60 power. Take off is a little long due to the high thrust line pinning the nose down but smooth when it does rotate. Trim change on and off power is marked but this has been made better using a throttle/elevator mix. Using bigger/more powerful turbines would aggravate this.

The "pinning" problem is probly caused by the Extremely long "thrust tube". The lines of the BD-5 aren't very accurate.

The length of the tailpipe is not the problem just the height it sits above the wing. Out of interest I may try the turbine mounted on the underside of the mounts and obviously lowering the entry of the tailpipe to suit. There is a photo on the Fantastic Abingdon thread now.

RE: Xtreme Jets BD-5
The only reason I was wondering this, there is I only see 1 person with this kit. My Byron BD-5 is 90% converted to turbine, jetcentral rabbit incoming in a few weeks, basically I have to repaint it and start installing everything back in it. I was looking for a backup place for the engine. Hard for me to buy a kit when one only see 1 person with it. IMO.
You think a rabbit is too much for the xtreme jets BD?
Also, the Byron BD-5 nose drops as well on takeoff due to the intakes basically under the engine cuasing the down thrust.

Trevor Skedge,
I am about to order the BD-5 and was thinking about the p-70 or p-80. What is the weight of the plane, complete? What are the aerobatics capabilities (rolls, loops, knife edge,)? Do you feel the p-60 is ample power? Thanks for your imput, Jim

RE: Xtreme Jets BD-5
Jim,
I feel the P60 is a good power for this model but it could use a little more. Problem being that if you use more power the high thrust line becomes even more marked and with the P60 it makes itself felt. If you have a decent runway then P70 would be my choice. Rolls are very axial and loops are good too but if you stretch the top and you have power on then it stops at the top and will bunt from the inverted. Of course outside loops are great. I found that letting the power off just before you go over the top results in a very nice loop. Smooth model all round and knife edges well. I cant remenber the AUW but it is weighty and guess around 20lbs dry.
If you like the look of the Bd5 then buy one, bags f character however you will have to fly around its habits. Personally I like it.

Trevor Skedge,
I am having a hard time finding the BD-5. I have e-mailed a couple different skymaster dealers as well as Skymaster.com. And X-treme jets.com directly with no success. If you, or anyone out there knows how to go about purchacing one, please let me know. Thanks, Jim
