Default Rabbit Dry Lake Conditions

How are the conditions at Rabbit DL? I would like to head out soon but was told it's under water after the recent storms.

Thanks

Mike

Rabbit Springs Lake is open for all water sports and may be so for some time!

Check this link, this is what Lucerne Valley looked like on Dec 18th:

Rabbit is just a couple miles in the background. Might still be cold enough to fly off the ice in the morning, but you'd need 4 wheel drive and chains to get out of there. All that snow is going to become water in the lake.

Thanks Guys, that's what I thought.

I guess buttonwillow is the ticket. Do I need to be a member of the club or can I just show up as a guest? I do have a radio for full-scale traffic if needed. I want to maiden my Mig.

thanks

Mike

You have to be a member or go as a guest with a member. There is a gate that is locked, so a key is needed too.

I will be heading out probably in about 2 weeks for sure for a madien, that is if the lake bed is still under water.

Water has receded at Rabbit so that it is mostly a mud swamp. Ordinarily, I say it would be dry in a week to 10 days, but there was another sizeable snow storm on the mountains directly to the south.

The entrance off the highway is flooded, the RW Ranch entrance is blocked by concrete barriers for roadwork and the pipeline road still has standing water the last 100 yards to the lakebed.

Thanks for the pictures TD.

Do you live very close to the lake? Keep us updated. There are couple of us that want to maiden new planes but the conditions are not favorable.

Water level has gone down Billy. You might find the bottom around 2 or 3 feet down in the mud if you try to drive onto the lakebed from the highway.

No reason to go back out there until the weekend.

Hello,

What are the current conditions at Rabbit Dry Lake Bed? Any chance of flying there this weekend?
