RE: DeHavilland DH-100 VAMPIRE 1/4
Has anyone tried the hydraulic retracts from UMS Technologies on their 1/4 Vampire? Web site
http://umstech.in/products_allmain.p...Landing&page=3
It could be ste same company as seen in a video of 1/5 scale Vampire in an earlier post
Thanks

RE: DeHavilland DH-100 VAMPIRE 1/4
Hi All,
I have sent a query to UMS on this very subject and I'm awaiting their detailed response.
I will forward when recived as I cannot make a recomendation without more info from UMS.
I do like what I see and am hopefull that there is a possibility these units my be suiatble for the 1/4 scale.
The singular issue isd the gear rating of 12kg (26#). This is fine for the 1/5th scale but not the 1/4 if in fact this is the actual limitation of the Airframe weight as the 1/4 scale will certainly finish in around 48 > 50#. Mine came in at 44.6# dry.
Will advise asap.
Brg.

Hola
I hope that these dates have been good Christmas for all.
For the construction , the Vampire progresses slowly but surely. On the topic of the landing gear, I took advantage to one unit of the model(total accident) from a colleague club. ist Not exactly the same but due to material shortages in the market, is strong and with little work I've installed. It comes from a FB Aeromacchi model, although there are few degrees of inclination to the original, for the moment let's fly with this, later we'll see the changes.
Some pictures of the work, and at the following website there are more.

Thanks for the feedback and support

Good steady progress Norbert, Your build site has made it much easier to build my plane, No wasted hours scratching my head deciding how things should go. Keep up the very good work.
Kerry, thank you for the info on retracts. I like the the slow way they operate which makes it that little bit more scale. Yes I know you can slow down air retracts but want to try hydraulic.

Hola
Warwick, the tubes are for carbon bayonets, I looked like a weak point of the structure, by photographs and video footage I've seen. For cables makes some orifice in the ribs and let some extensions slaves.
You step a more accurate photos,
Greetings
Norbert
Tonight, more photos of the progress

Great work guys! One of my all-time favorites! What kind of engines are you powering the 1/4 ones with? 160N ?
I can't seem to find a lot of detailed info on schemes of the full-sizes ones though..
Build on!

Hi NightSwan,
The engine for the Vampire, is a Merlin 160, with 17nw, for me a good choice, I have three Merlin 160 and are great with few problems.
Kerry,
Thanks for your comments, the design does not present great difficulty and the construction works very well, not problem for a great model.
Saludos

Hi,
don't think it's in print, but while searching for it online I stumbled upon a probably not so authorised but very useable PDF version of it.
Oh well, it all helps

RE: DeHavilland DH-100 VAMPIRE 1/4
Thanks for the advice on glass cloth, I have ordered in readiness of finishing the model. However, I need help. I am building the booms and have built the individual halves as per the the cross section AA. Now I am looking at joining the halves and see that B10 fits between the two halves at the back. That puts a 1/8 gap along the boom, yet the cross section does not have a 1/8th piece to compensate. The fin has a 1/4 slot in the bottom rib to locate over B10 and B10 in only 1/8 thick. Can someone please help as to the positioning of B10, What am I missing?
Thanks
Thanks

RE: DeHavilland DH-100 VAMPIRE 1/4
I am answering this from memory, but is not B10 located in both halves of the boom and therefore add up to 1/4 in? You need 4 ea B10 to complete the 2 booms?

RE: DeHavilland DH-100 VAMPIRE 1/4
Thank you for your thoughts Per, If I double up B10 it will make the root of the boom a total of 1/4 inch wider than the plan says. (cross section AA). The locating appature for the boom to wing will be 1/2 inch pocket and only 1/4 inch allowed for. The plan only calls for 2 B10s and that was all that was supplied with the kit.
I will try and post pictures tonight.
Thanks again

Nothing goes between the two boom halves that you are building. You build the the halves flat on the board with one B10 in each half. When the halves are glued together, you get the 1/4 in lip that fits into the fin.
In the front of the boom, there is a 1/8 in pocket in each half, and when glued together it will form a 1/4 in pocket to accept the lip from the front consisting of 1/8 in ply former + 1/8 balsa doubler.
