Yellow Aircraft - Starfire or Stingray?
I'm going to buy and build my first large EDF jet... trying to decide between the Starfire and teh Stingray. Probably going to use a 10s setup with ducted fan.
Which would be the easiest to build... and which would be the easiest to fly? I've heard the Stingray can get tiny very fast, but the Starfire isn't that much bigger... also heard about stall issues with the Stingray, but I wouldn't expect those to be an issue on a lighter EDF setup.
Any commments/assistance?

The Stingray flew dawn good. I haven't snap with EDF power plant cause it so light weight. The early day flying turbine version is little heavy and it snap on the short approach.
Here is the StarFire I'm working. We give a different look to and reduce the inlet drag.
This will fit our TJ100 fan and run on 10s or 11s to kept it light.
I'm goes to dress her up with pylons and missles.

This conversion was for both. I had bypass and fuel tanks to do turbine.

So what should we call this new look Star Fire.
I'll update my site tonight with the StarFire online. Just need to come up with the name for the new StarFire look.

It avaiable to order if you want.
I got the bypass fit to my inlet. All need is making the pipe. The fuel tanks I already got. It from my F-16 and A-4 kit.

waaaay kool amigo!!! i'm thinking more F9 Tiger looking but definitely harrier inlet style. monokote the wings and tail and she's as light as feather. very niiiiice.

I like the Tamfire name. I priced it all up w/ a Tam EDF plug n play fan and 10S setup w/ the conversion kit, kit and gear, and i think the price was about $2100 w/ 2 10S 3700mah batts. Not a bad price at all! And the fact i've been looking for another full build project, makes it almost perfect timing 
I can't wait to hear the flight report, and hopefully see a video.

Hi,
Specs-wise it's not much bigger than a Stingray, but with its conventional planform, it looks bigger side-by-side. I'd definitely go with the E-Turbax, DynEmax or another 120-mm setup so you can use the stock equipment without modding or buying any unnecessary aftermarket gear for it. Good luck, the Starfire's been one of the best flying sport jets around for a long time!

She go be completely upgrade from standard kit to slick looking sport jets.
This slow market and peoples had more time to built kit. I just add the nice to feature to this great sport jets.
The work involve is not that much. Just mate the two intake and wowla. In few hours extra work you got total different StartFire.

It pretty good dawn price package. Time is everyone had right now. Spend time to built your own kit and paint what ever you want.
So there is no exactly StarFire look when bring to the jets meet.

Very tempting but I have a 1/2 complete Ultra Viper.
Tam did you ever make inlets (needed for your fan unit) or anything for the Ultra Viper/Agg II/Mav fuselage?

The Electra pretty much can fit in the Maverik.
I can send you a pair to try if it fit.

OK I will call you Tam. I am still employed (I still have more money than time) but that can change_real_quick (ask those 70K people from yesterday)
As to the original poster, I have a few flights on a DF starfire and they fly very nice. I have maybe 300 or more flights on a turbine stingray, it is really not that bad to fly. I only stalled it once, won't do that again if I can help it!!
I think the lighter set up with Tam's electric pod would fly nicely, and it is very convenient to transport when it is taken apart. Very easy to build as well, just the wings and rudders to glass....old school.

I ended up owning Tam Demo model ( Jolly rogers ) after a few flights at Florida Jets last year, I just had to have it!
I am not the wolrds biggest dust buster fan, but I have to say the Stingray was a hoot. It flew well, and was as trouble free as as edf can be. Super simple to operate. Yes it did come in a little hot, but I guess thats a trait of all edf's right now. I found the one Tam set up was nigh on unstall-able. I used to come round the final bend on full elevator and keep it pretty much there till touch down, using power to stretch the decent if needed. The missiles were a super cool touch to finish off the great build and paint! I am semi tempted to get another but with real propulsion!
As for the Starfire... Its a legend. I had a few flights on a friends beat up old df one when I was just a kid... it was like getting the keys to a ferrari at the time. I have to have another one soon, and now that Tam has dealt with the one issue which I was not keen ( Massive Intakes ) its only a matter of time till a P-60 finds its way into my life.. Just have to make sure the tail group is nice and stiff as I saw a few of these depart back in the edf days when the stabs got a wobble on in a dive!!
Which ever you go for I am sure you will be happy. ( Yes even if you convert it to a dust buster
) The Stingray is a fun little delta that is pretty simple to operate and maintain
The Starfire is more of a proper plane ( If that makes sense) and is a for sure a more pure and precise flying experience.

the more i look at it and see how you are doing yours, its exactly the way i was thinking of doing the one i am very highly thinking of building right now. Now if i can clean my work bench of these other jets so i can get some funds to do a tamfire
