ECU battery question
I have been told to aquire a new ECU battery for a JC falcon.
I am looking to stay with NIMH's since I have some experience and chargers for them. I was advised by a gentleman with considerable JC experience that NIMH's are fine as long as it is a 6c (7.2v) system.
Any recommendations? Advice?
Thanks so much, Peter

RE: ECU battery question
low impedance NiMh work fine, I've swapped over to Duralite LiMg and if you don't need the weight of the battery for balance (NiMh and NiCd are often used in balancing) they are hard to beat. you can get a Duralite charger for the stay balance connector for 30 bucks and you can get 6 flights from a single charge, if you need more flights you can quick charge through the main lead with the multiplex connector with any Li compatible charger.

RE: ECU battery question
Thanks, What are some good NIMH packs? I use Hydramax but I haven't seen a 7.2v yet.
I would consider LIMG's but I don't have charging equipment for them.

RE: ECU battery question
the only NiMh I've used are two GP 3000 packs that i use for my blower, if i bench run a turbine i use one of them and they work fine, the only 6 cell packs I've used in a jet are NiCd. if i was guessing any of the NiMh packs for the electric motor cars/helis/planes would work fine.

RE: ECU battery question
Pete, Cheapbatterypacks.com has some nice NiMh packs. He will also build them to your specs. He has a lot of diffrent ones, but look for ones that can dump a lot of current. These have low internal resistance, voltage does not drop near as much under load, and seem to hold up really well.
They have some smaller lighter cell ones that can dump 30+ amps and are awesome cells. It's what I used on my Super bees before I went to Lipos.
I still use the NiMh for flight packs in other airplanes.

RE: ECU battery question
man thats great. i just bought a 4400 7.2 6 cell nimh for my ecu. do you really need to break them in. i charged mine at 2.0 amps discharged and charged up again at 2.0 amps. is this really important. nimh dont have memorys so i think as long as you charge at a low amp your fine ..pat
