RE: FEJ 1/5,5 F-16 build thread
Dave,
When FlyEagle originally introduced the F-16 a few months back, it was planned to have the rear airbrakes. I remember seeing it on the website. Somewhere between then and now the idea got scrapped. I'm going to make some up for mine, I think, just because I think they're neat. I might even go for the brake parachute as well. Definitely going to add the lighting package!

I stared all night at the website last night trying to find the speedbrakes. They were supposed to have them. I even thought they were planning leading edge flaps.

You havent said much about what you think of yours. What do you think? Any pics?

Hi Scott:
I have family coming for a big B-Day party, I have joined the halfs together and will post some pictures when I get a chance. As my thoughts to the plane, I think it is a monster, I was going to run my Merlin in it, I too like David S have all the Bombs and tanks, I will not fly it loaded. I must say detail is awesome and my wife loves the scheme that I got which is the Artic scheme. As for the detail in finish, it is much nicer than my SM 1/6 scale F-16. I think that might have to do with getting one of the first pulls rather the 100th or so on my SM.

Dave! You wild man...how the heck are ya? Get that Sm F-16 done yet???? Been rebuilding mine while waiting for James to get me some of the mods I want on the F-18 gear. About done so she will fly at MS Afterburners in late April.
I think I am going the Scale-Jet F-16 route on the bigger 16...I have the FEJ F-18F and the F-15 and need to be convinced by James that he has it together on the others before I invest in another FEJ Model. I have been a team player for FEJ and raelly think they build a nice plane. But until I have the Landing Gear for the two I have ironed out...I will be a spectator for the F-16 model from James. The Scale-Jet F-16 is pretty expensive but look at what you get!!!! It's in the MIBO and SkyGate range as far as price and quality is concerned. I agree with David though...for the price of the FEJ...no one can complain.
I would just like to relax a bit more on the next build...tired of Beta testing for a jet or two.

Dang Rex:
You need to take a long break, how many gallons of fuel did you go through last year, MY SM is what I like to call ready to start and test fly, a couple of fine tuning items to take care of. I will post some pic's of the two birds together soon
Take care big Dog

RE: FEJ 1/5,5 F-16 build thread
Gear Gentleman, Gear!!!!
I have an invoice sitting in my desk, but just as Rex stated, I want to know how the gear looks, performs and structural integrity. If concensus says that the gear is robust and seems to be in the SkyMaster 1/6 catagory I'll pull the trigger now and get the ball rolling. If gear seems questionable I will wait to see flight and landing charactoristics after a few birds have maidened.
Also can someone please measure the wheel base distance on the FEJ F16 and lets compare it to the wheel stance on the 1/6 F16 SkyMaster.
Here is an example with my FEJ F18F with yellow replacement gear.
Thanks
Kevin

Looks like a big difference in size! I have the SM F-16 and can't wait for the FEJ. Big is better!
Keep us posted on quality and build.
Thanks for the pictures.

Dave! What is up with the empty garage in the background??? There is room for at least two more jet projects in there!!! The FEJ F-16 looks really nice. I have the FEJ 15 twin to put together but waiting for the new gear report from Eric Clapp and Bill Hatcher before I start that one. Finished with the FEJ F-18...waiting on the gear mods Oliver in Dubai did to his...he is doing mine for me since James feels it is not necessary and would cause too much refitting for gear doors and such. I'll be watching you guys on the FEJ build...if it looks good...I'll save a ton of money going with this versus the Scale-Jets F-16.
No breaks or resting when it comes to the jet bug!!!
Have fun!

Any comments about the landing gear on the FEJ large F-16. I have the JL 1/6 scale F-16, but would like to go for the larger Falcon if there are NO concerns about the gear. Like a few others, I also have the FEJ large Hornet and Eagle, but would rather not add another FEJ plane until gear issues on the first two are corrected.

Hi David, I played around with the main gear last night, they retract very smoothly, I also noticed that it went up with about 70lbs of air, I'm very impressed, the tolerances are very good and next to no play. and no leaks! the springs are very hard and probably should be with a flying weight around 45-48lbs.
I will look at the front later tonight.

RE: FEJ 1/5,5 F-16 build thread
Hi Folks,
I am not a jet flyer I used to fly air planes and Helis back in 6-7 years ago. I don't have time for my hobby like I use to before any more due to my work.
F-16 is my best love air craft...... I ordered FEJ F-16 1:51/2 scale in custom Camo color scheme. I am looking forward to get mine in May or June. when I get the air craft will be modification to fully detail to the full size and will be seat on my room just for look. LOL

RE: FEJ 1/5,5 F-16 build thread
Any info/pics of the gear compared to the lovely bit of kit that is the 1/6 Skymaster gear?
Like others have said, I will steer clear of this model unless I am convinced there are no gear issues as with the big F15 & F18.
Any news/proof of this?
Cheers

RE: FEJ 1/5,5 F-16 build thread
I just received mine. Finally. It is much bigger than I was expecting. Some shipping damage. Not bad though considering it came from the other side of the world. I find it hard to believe a Rhino would fly this plane with any kind of performance. I am considering the P200. What is everyone else using?
Getting a servo list together. Pictures on FEJ website show JR DS8911 servos for elevators and rudder. JR website doesn't show such a servo available. Anybody have a recommended servo list?
The springs on the main gear on mine seem pretty soft. The aircraft easily rocks from side to side even without an engine, radio, fuel, missles, tanks, etc. My experience with smaller f-16s is that this will cause the aircraft to tip and drag a wing. The gear spreads wider when compressed which is different from my other experiences. Perhaps this will help.
The gear looks pretty fragile. I doubt it will take a hard landing without damage. The main wheels wiggle a little to much for my preference. Ball bearings on the wheels don't sound smooth. A little crunchy. Audible clicking sound when spun by hand. The gear has a nice look to it. Everything moves smoothly by hand.
No instructions came with the kit. Some good pictures on the FEJ website though. James says he'll have picture of the ordinance mounting holes in a few days. He has been very helpful. FEJ even threw in a few extras for me. It took almost 5 months to get, but so far , it looks really good. Should make a great plane for the summer airshows.

RE: FEJ 1/5,5 F-16 build thread
Hi tlj125,
Wow it took almost 5 months to get your? I ordered mine in the first week of March and I expect to get it within 2 months... but, sound like I have to wait that long!....
I saw one at the California Jet 2009 and the landing Gears looks a bit small for that huge F-16.... I also, saw one F-16 1:5 Scale that from Netherland.
both of the FEJ and Netherland F-16 does not look that much different in size by looking at them but, Netherland F-16 landing gears are look much bigger and completely scale.
The F-16 from Netherland ARF price @ $23,000. (with turbine $28,000.) The price of the FEJ F-16 1:5.5 scale is not thing if compare to Netherland F-16 1:5 scale.
Photo below is FEJ F-16 1:5.5 Scale
Photo below is Netherland F-16 1:5 Scale main and nose landing gears
You can tell what is the different...
