CINCINNATI JETS!! UPDATE for RV's Please Read
The second annual Cincinnati Jets Thunder In The Sky event is approaching very fast and will be held on July 24-26, 2009. We had a great time last year with 43 pilots attending and we are hoping to see a few more guys that were unable to make it last year.
We will be flying from the same taxiway as last year but we WILL remove all of the taxi lights this year so the area will be totally unobstructed should you miss the runway or land long and run off the side. Anyone that attended last year will tell you that it is one of the best facilities available for flying jets.
UPDATE FOR RV'S We have relocated the flying area this year (additional info below) that has resulted in some changes for the RV's. We are able to accommodate allot of RV's because we have plenty of space. We will have electric and water available for the weekend and will provide electric for as many RV's as we can at the new location. We will have 120 volt power available this year, about 400 amps of power from the hangers and possibly a small generator. I had planned on providing a large generator for the RV's but the cost is prohibitive so I suggest that everyone with RV's bring a generator just in case we run out of power since I have no idea how many people in RV's will be attending. I do not expect it will be a problem but please be prepared with your own generator.
There is plenty of overnight jet storage in the hangers and the pilots dinner will be on Saturday night again and we should have pizza on Friday night as well.
Bob Belluomini will be directing the flight line again this year to make sure we have good control of air traffic and everyone flies safely.
***The rates for the hotel are $72.00 per night (same as last year) at the Holiday Inn Express (phone (513) 727-8440. Most everyone stayed here last year for the event and I was told it was nice. Please make your reservations soon because there are only 20 rooms available at the hotel for the weekend since there is another event in town at the same time. If we use all of the rooms (which we will) then please contact me and I will provide additional hotel information. ***
The new location is even better than last year because pilots can now place their tents directly on the auxiliary taxiway and won't have to carry planes to the startup area. There is probably enough auxiliary taxiway to accommodate all pilots but if not we can also pit along the runway as we normally do at most events.
I have attached an aerial view so everyone can see the new flying area. This location at the airport also provides even more room in the startup area than last year.
We will be storing airplanes overnight in the blue hangers next to the RV parking shown in the photo.
The last aerial photo in this post shows the following field layout for the 2009 event:
Pilot tent areas - Orange
Startup and Pit - Purple
RV Parking area - Red
Spectator parking - Yellow
The Blue line drawn down the runway shows the distance from the pilot stations to the end of the runway which is 1,000'. This is just in one direction going north from show center and is probably 4,000' or so in the other direction.
Thanks, Gary

Thanks to everyone for the great compliments on last years event. Everyone involved appreciates the recognition very much. We want everyone to have a great time again this year!!
Dave maybe we should skip pizza on Friday night and go to the nearby Italian restaurant that I promised you and Russ I would show you this year.
Sean, we need to make sure we round up the boys from Missouri again this year...

Dave, if you and Russ are coming down on Thursday we can go to Sorento's on Thursday evening. I am sure Bob and some of the other guys would like to go as well.
Let me know if you are interested...Gary

Sounds doable. I'll tidy up the details on our end.
Thanks!

RE: CINCINNATI JETS!!!
In an effort to accommodate those who bring RV's to Cincinnati Jets this year we have decided to use a different section of the Hook field runway for flying this year. This will allow the RV's to be relocated much closer to the flying area and eliminate the need for people moving in and out of the Hook field facility.
The new location is even better than last year because pilots can now place their tents directly on the auxiliary taxiway that runs from the hangers to the main taxiway and simply roll their planes to the pit startup area instead of carrying their planes. There is probably enough auxiliary taxiway to accommodate all pilots but if not we can also pit along the runway as we normally do at most events.

Looks great Gary.
Now if we could just flip the whole field around in the late afternoon/early evening would be perfect

Mark, maybe it will be a little cloudy later in the day.
The sun is almost always an issue at some point during the day for most fields but the northeast/southwest runway means the wind is almost always down the runway at Hook field...

Gary,
Looks great! Having the RV parking closer to the flight line will be a much welcomed change!! I think we wore out those golf carts running back and forth last year. Sure were grateful to have them though. I do have one question, does this mean that we won't have electricity hook up for the RV's? Looking foward to the event!!
Thanks,
Sean

Sean, the golf carts worked well last year but they are a real liability for me in many ways and we don't want to use them again this year. Eliminating golf cart usage (by everyone) is the main reason for the new location for flying. Last year the golf carts were a fix for a logistical problem with the RV location but we have figured out a much better solution for 2009. I am very excited about the new location because I know it is going to be even better than last year.

This Event by far is the Best Event of the Summer in the Midwest! No Commercial Vendor B.S. with extremely supportive Airport personel and you can never forget the friendly CD to run the Event and the Best flight Boss in the business! (Bob understands the pilots and keeps a close eye on the traffic) We will always make this Event each year and I know it will only get better! Gary, I cannot thank you enough for TRULY bringing a "Pilots" Event to the Midwest. This Event is what all the other Events in the Midwest wanna be like when they grow up!!!!!!!!!!!
