@ John
no the are from a A 380, sorry I don't use US-hardware !
I do this modification for short landings on small fields.
We don't have so large runways like you in USA.
With this slotted flaps are steep descendings possible without high increase of the speed.

we have also 300 ft runways here (with obstacles on final) but our are not on sea level like yours.
Then Dutch pilots skills are much better then Swiss ones.

Hi Guys,
A few more hours of work on the Viper and she is looking good! thank you so much for all your guidance for the installing the bypass! it was my first one. I added some pictures.
I noticed when I installed my powerbox royal the servo wires are too close to the bottom of the pilot assembly box.... so I decided to do a little trick..... 20 minutes on my CAD software Autodesk Inventor 2011 and 4 hours later the part was made in ABS plastic from my 3D Printer So cool!!! wait to see what i am doing to place the batteries .
Enjoy the pictures and once again thank ou for the guidance for the bypass! I acn smell maiden coming very soon!

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
It looks great Gonzalo!!
Keep an eye on the tabs attaching the thrust tube to the bypass when you get the turbine running. I found on mine that after a little heat, the thrust tube wasn't as tight a fit as it was. If the tabs aren't straight from the tube to the fixing point, they can straighten after use, so it might be worthwhile taking the 90 degree bend out of them before you fly.

Carsten,
Please could you measure across the outside of the bypass and let me know.
Thanks

it's difficult to measure, but it is around 145 mm +/- "something"
Another thing, when some of you get out again with your Vipers, please try and start the engine, lift the plane, and retract the gear.
Now slowly advance the throttle, and look at your canopy, and see if it is moving!
Next time we go out here (next week) with our Vipers (3 flying so far), we will try and shoot a video of the movement, both on a P160 and on my P200, you will be amazed !

Hallo Carsten,
I was looking way back in this thread and you wrote this.
I didn't look any further but did you changed anything on the canopy and/or frame.
At the top middle of my canopy a glued in another pin and in the middle of both sides i glued in also some hooks that fit in the fuselage.
Because now you are talking about movements of your canopy, maybe this could be a solution.
It is one of the changes Ali told me to do.

Ali,
have you done somthing with a brace in the front of the canopy ?
There is a cross brace in fiberglass when the canopy is delivered, I looks like on your pictures that it is removed ?
I'm afraid that removing it will make the canopy blow of in flight ?

Ron,
I explained myself in a wrong way. It's not the canopy FRAME that moves, but the glass that is sucked in.
I also added two more tabs to the frame, and made a fillet of epoxy/fibers in the front and rear of the canoopy to make the frame a little stiffer.
But again, it's the glass that flexes in and out depending on the throttle setting, the frame is ok

Ok, i understand.
But i was thinking when you didn't do anything on the frame, that it could has an effect on the whole canopy.
Next time when i am going to fly the Viper i will also take al look to the canopy with gear in and full power
Again, good luck with finding the sollution.

MUST HAVE, THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE!!!
Okay guys, I have no shame in admitting that my building skills are horrible, I have no time to build anyways, and my builder is Bill Hatcher in Florida and right now he is building my SM Large Viper. Bill is a world class builder and those who have seen his work can attest to that. This is the coolest part:
He is custom building smoke tanks that drop right into my Viperjet and sit next to the factory standard main tank. He has carved a foam block to make a plug to make a mold, these tank drop right in and hold 72 oz of smoke!!! [sm=shades_smile.gif]
Now THAT is what I call attention to detail! I was so impressed by this that I thought I would post it. I am sure he could make other fans of this beautiful SM Viperjet smoke tanks as well, and I have no idea really what the cost would be, but you can contact him by email at: [email protected]
Here are some preliminary pictures, and I have requested that Bill document the smoke tank build which I can post for those interested in his tanks, or people who wish to make their own:

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi all,
My Viper just arrived, They certainly make a beautiful paint job.
My first question and I guess there will be a few.
I am starting to work on the right wing, to instal the servos, lights etc. However I note that the aileron is top hinged and at the moment only goes up and not down,
It would appear that the aileron is being stopped from going down, advice as to what to look for would be apprciated.
Thanks
Ross
Ali, this one is in your colours and will have smoke and lights etc.

Hi Ross,
Aileron go up and down. Check the "gap sealing fairing" clear the trailing edge of wing. It may have destorted and stopped it from moving into root. Trim if needed.

Morne

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
It may be the wiper, but it's more than likely the leading edge of the counter balance part of the aileron. I had to trim mine on the wings and the stabs

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Hi Carsten
I have tried running the Viper on the stand with the wheels up and have found the following (Viper has 160SX new motor)
On my Viper when the wheels are down I close the main wheel doors via the sequencer when I run the motor in this configaration on the stand the Canopy is ok and you can feel quite a lot of air coming in through the noeswheel.(I do not have a bypass).
When the wheels are all up and doors closed I was not game to take it over 1/3 throtle as the sides of the canopy (not the frame ) were being sucked in and I was afraid it was going to break. ( see photos ). So I cut out the air brakes as per photo and made up a frame and glued in some alloy sive wire and painted it all flat black.I then put it on the stand again and tried it. This time with the motor running flat out it only moved the canopy a very small amount so I am pretty sure that it will be ok. Also we should bare in mind that the plane is not in the air so you do not have the forced air coming in but I am not sure whether this would make any difference or not. We have several Vipers flying here and they have not had any trouble with the canopy all are using the Jetcat 160 This makes me wonder if some of the canopies are of a thinner grade on the sides. On my canopy I have put an extra pin at the top of the frame at the front and 2 pins on the sides of the frame half way along it also has a piece of spruce going across the conopy between the 2 pilots. (May be Anton or John could check the quality of the canopies )
Hope this helps Bronte

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Thanks for the advice, something is stopping the aileron going down, if I tried to move it down, there is a loud "Clunk" as if something very solid is in the way.
It appears to come from where the counterbalance is fitted but I cannot see anything there to stop the aileron..
Regards
Ross
