Default Scale f-16 cockpit

Hey Fellas.

A while back, I had started an f-16 6th scale plug project and later abandoned it after deciding the market was saturated with f-16s.

I did get as far as doing 2 basic plugs one being a 2 seater which I may restart in the future. but as for now, I was looking at the cockpit I had started and was thinking If there was enough interest I might complete it as an upgrade high scale product which could be used for the current set of 6th scale chinese f-16s or anything else that could be fitted I suppose.

The plan is super scale. making it complete to then be mounted and also as a kit to be completed by the owner at a much lower price point.
I want to get feedback on if there would be enough interest to warrant my going ahead with the project. I cant post price projections now as Im still deciding exactly how anal I want to be about the detail level. But I would appreciate any input on this.

thanx in advance.

Bela,

I think there would be an excellent market for something along the lines/quality of the BlueBox F-15 cockpits! I'd order one as long as the price was reasonable.

Thanx for the feedback so far guys.

I gotta be honest, Im sure I wont be able to compete with the Chinese pricing, actually I dont know who could, BUT Im pretty confident that the end result would be exactly what is needed. and would be the focal point of the model...at least BBI quality.
It would be a fairly high parts count cockpit with most parts molded in the appropriate color which would minimize needed painting which is one of the main things that make a part look cheesy.
Since im currently working on a raptor and flanker cockpit, for economy of manufacture, I thought I might slip in the f-16 cock as well.

Hi Bela:

I'll be interested in your F-16 cockpit should you decide to go ahead and build. I have a 1/5.5 scale project on right now and my 1/6 scale BBI pilots will be delighted to have a very scaled cockpit to sit in.

PM me to discuss pricing...

Hey Fellas!

I thought I would post a pic of the layout that I've decided on. This isnt the final cockpit, just an old pic showing how it will be pieced together as a kit.
Ive tried to do it in a way that would make it easy to retrofit to the existing f-16s out there. there will be both the WAC hud and a WAR hud included in the kit. the kick panels will be perforated like the real jet.
The Icp will be hollow for those who want to install lighting under the hud.
Im currently doing the detailing and there will be a few surprises added, those pics will come soon, but for now, I need feedback from you guys who own f-16s on any fit problems you anticipate.

Thanx

Bela

Hmmm, alot of work to repeat in another scale. Even in 6th scale Im doing this mainly for my own project, and not so much trying to gauge the market. Response will dictate how far I take the retail version.

Hi Bela:

How is your F-16 cockpit project coming? Any pictures you would like to share with us, or the finished prototype version?

Hey Fifiward!

How have you been?

I know its been slow, Its due to the other projects but there is progress. Though its still got a ways to go, these pics will show where I'm going with this.
Two dogs Thanx. hopefully things will go smooth from here on out.

What you see is the final layout minus the actual tub which is currently being molded so I used my first dummy tub for this shoot. As well, here you see the W.A.R hud but the final kit will include both types of huds.

The rear walls arent shown nor are the guages switches and knobs as they are being molded tonight.

As always, you guy's feedback is greatly appreciated.

Bela
on my JL F-16, the canopy area is kinda small for the scale 1/6. I just got the JL cockpit and its smaller than I expected. I put a 12 inch figure in it, and it is too tall. So if you could find a canopy section of a JL, might be good to see fit. If you dont have one, I probably could take dimensions for you.. I think its smaller than the skymaster area. Later this spring I will have both side by side to see.

I would think those two planes would be your major market.. I have not found a good cockpit or pilot for that yet. I flew F-16A, B, C, D, all blocks so I know what Im looking for. Your design is going to be excellent.

The china stuff that I have seen isnt that good.. My friend has an F-15 Blubox cockpit in his plane and its superior and I would pay more for it.

Below is the JL cockpit, I am going to use it, but Im really not happy with it..

Goose

Actually flying the fullscale deal, I think you, more than most would know what is lacking in these cockpits. but frankly, Im just not understanding the whole BBI thing. Repeatedly, guys take a fairly scale jet and stuff an f-15 tub in it for the purpose of making it look more......scale? Ive seen it in everything from f-16s a-10s eurofighters and even russian migs. Oh well to each his own.

I know the word scale is used by everyone, but the attempt here is to make a tub that is TRULY scale. Targeting Block 40-42 Block 50-52 birds. The tub will be full depth so you wont have to amputate your pilots legs. As you can see, it will even have a rudder pedal assembly, but that wont have to be permanently mounted.
There are a few things Ive had to leave out, simply because of the small size of the market, but I will max out a couple kits for my own f-16, and possible offer that upgraded version later if there is enough interest.

For the china f-16s you would have to make some alterations Im sure, just as you would have to if you went the BBI route.
the tubspace numbers would be helpful, please pm them when you have time.

One thing you dont need my help on is the pink seat harness. DuDE! PiNk???? ..........Pink??? nothing a sharpie pen cant help.

I think you mis understood my comment. I was only referring to the quality of the BB..I am on board with what you are trying to do and am very interested. I would prefer the Block 50/52 cockpit as I never liked the 40 cockpit/hud setup.

Can you believe they sent me a scale cockpit with pink straps. That cockpit was ordered from JL and sent to me from china.. O I will be dying them.. I was dumbfounded when I opened the box. My F-18 cockpit was the same.. I just couldn't believe it.

To me Scale is trying to replicate the full scale bird.. which you are trying to do... KEEP going!! its going to be sweet. I am interested in one..

Great work, brings back memories

My first job was on the design team for the GAC on the Block 40, we were replacing the Block 25 MSIP EFCC from Delco or maybe the IEFCC from Elbit? Can't remember that was 20 years ago!

Oh and I worked on specs for the (then) new DTC and Symbol Generator for the Block 50.

BTW, did the Block 50/52 finally get color displays? If so anyone know what technology they went with?

Anyway, great modelling!
