RE: FEJ Saab J-35 Draken
One more thing one fifth scale is much better and can someone tell me why the English build on a much larger scale than thoes of us living on the western hemisphere. Check out the English site and the member from the LMMA they have 1/2 scale and 1/4 so for us 1/5th scale is the jam and for the Draken 1/5 scale is the bomb. so keep me informed especially if it comes in 1/5 scale I like
giant scale aircraft who knew Saxman57 has left the building so stay in touch..........[:-]

That's easy, three letters.....FAA. After 100 pounds you are now in the FAA's back yard. Also, jets haven't been allowed into the AMA experimental catagory for that long, so there's not that many of the big ones ready yet.
A Draken would be cool, something different from another F-15, F-16, F-18 or F-4. As for size I vote for smaller rather than bigger. Of the 3 turbine pilots in my area we have a total of 6 engines all from 17 to 30 pounds of thrust. When I look at the new planes that come out I look at what can I put my current engines in, I can't afford to send $4,500 on a new engine to go with my new plane and i'd imagine there are many others in the same boat.

RE: FEJ Saab J-35 Draken
Nice 2 C some chatta in this room. Now all that is needed is a few PMs from you telling me that you will order one from FEJ. If I get a decent amount, I can make it happen. It was I who talked them into the F-14 and now it’s on the move. Well, I can do the same for this sweet puppy but this go round, I need your help.
I hear some of you say a smaller version; I’m down with the 1:5 scale because that’s what the Originator made it in. The originator has a sweet product, just too expensive for me and it’s a kit. I believe it runs over $8K and it’s a kit. FEJ will make it just like the rest of it’s birds, an ARF, painted, with gear installed, etc, etc. The price-can’t tell you that but I think it’s safe to say it will be way, way under $8K.
They make two versions of their F-18, F-15, and F-16; I see no reason why that won’t eventually be a reality for this puppy as well. But man, I want the 1:5 with a Mammoth or a P180, P200, or other. And maybe a 1:8 would please those of you who spoke of not having the funds for a heavy turbine or the means to transport such a monster. I don’t have the funds either, but man, I gotta have that puppy [sm=tongue_smile.gif]
Hit me up with a PM. I’ll keep you informed.
Later…

saxman57,
If You can not wait for a FEJ ARF kit of SAAB Draken (if it will be available) it is today at least two other Draken kits on the market:
1) From Air-Tech
Scale 1:6.9
Wingspan 136 cm / 54 inch
Length 222 cm / 87 inch
Turbine 80-120 Newton (JetCat P80-P120 or similar)
Designed by Manfred Eberhard
Full GFK
Price 1699 Euro / US$ 2396
http://www.air-tech.info/html/modell...in/modell.html
Feedback from one Danish buyer/builder is that Air-Tech did not delivered the Draken to him when promised and landing gear did not fit so be aware of that.
2) From Jet-Team-Liebetrau (J-T-L)
Scale 1:5
Pictures:

Landing gear:

Wingspan 186 cm / 73 inch
Length 300 cm / 118 inch
Turbine 160-180 Newton (JetCat P160-P180 or similar)
Designed by Manfred Eberhard

RE: FEJ Saab J-35 Draken
Guess what folks? We are looking more into this puppy. Miniature models have been ordered, detailed photos are pilling in, scale drawings are being delivered; the wheels are a turning.
I received only one PM, but that just made me push even harder, and my people are coming around. 118.11†or 300 centimeters is the current length of the Liebetrau model which equals a 1:5 scale. I’m still shooting for that size but we may go with a 1:5.5 which is around 270cm or 108.75â€; about the size of their current larger F-15. I guess that’s not bad but I want the full 118â€
This is a huge bird at 1:5; the wings do not detach; at least not from the Liebetrau version. That would require a freakin’ huge box to ship from China – big money; but if the wings were somehow detachable, then no big deal.
I’ll keep you posted.

DJ,
I have built and flown the LIebetrau version. The wings do in fact detach. The tail cone aft of the vertical stab also is removeable. Great flying aircraft.

I remember talking to you about this puppy. So the wings do detach - that's great. I will pass on this info - this will make shipping a bit easier. Thank you, Sir.

RE: FEJ Saab J-35 Draken
Hi guys,
Dog, the landing gear on Draken is to my oppinium not easier to handle. I have all the drawings and a friend of mine have designed undercarriged for Draken based on the original, and they are not that easy. They have to "shorten" when retracted to accomodate the wheels in the wing.

Pipecleaner,
On Manfred Eberhard designed SAAB Draken scale 1:5 it is used landing gear made by gl-Modelltechnik. In Jet Power Magazine 2/2007 it is written some about the landing gear: "Careful location of the retraction pivot point causes the undercarige legs to be shorter as they retract." The nose wheel yoke is according to the article in Jet Power Magazine made of carbon fibre and the tailwheel has also parts made of carbon fibre, and pneumatic cylinder made by gl-Modelltechnik for up/down movement.
Some pictures below on the main landing gear, nose gear and tail gear(two wheels).

Gents and Ladies
Soon I believe I will post the words: It Has Begun. Stay tuned.
Yesterday I had a long and detailed discussion with FEJ: James - looking good.
We were going to display models at Liberty Jet but had to cancel. One of our friends did go and he saw Frank fly his Draken. His words were simply: Awesome
David Sears sold his Draken awhile back; don't know what's up with that bird, so that makes Frank the ONLY one in the US with a flying model. That's pretty kool to be the only one. The only one for now, that is
