Mike: Had a peek at Tom's plane that arrived today and have a few Q's: There was no servo openings in the wings or vertical fin. Is it supposed to be like that or did someone just forget to do it??
Are there any hard points in the wings for the drop tanks?
There was no manual in the box or any other info on throws, CG etc. Is there a manual availiable somewhere?

Other that that the plane looked very good! The flat finish also looked great!
I was hoping for pre-cut servo openings with mounts inside ready to drop the servos in, and pre-hinged control surfaces with control horns installed because I think it's a PITA to do, but I may be have to high hopes...[:-]
Will future kits feature any of that?

Hi Staale,

Tom's order was done a while back (about 4 months ago with a special deal that we agreed) and was just waiting for the L/G system, so his order has no openings on the servos area. We will provide him the location of the opening. His version has no hard point for the wing pylons, so they has to be glued on.

On the later order, we have added these servo openings for the elevators and rudder and drop tanks pylon pre-tapped mounting holes and hard points for all the new batches. I can show you these photos later.

Thanks for the info, Mike!

Would it also be possible to have the control surfaces hinged and control horns installed??
What is the delivery status for the latest version??

Hi Staale,

The latest version will have Kevlar live hinging on the wings. The full size also has the hinging on the top surface of the wings, so it's actually more scale with live hinging on the top surface. The location of the servo pockets are shown on these pictures, hopefully Tom can find these locations. If not, please ask him to contact our tech support at info@globaljetclub.com

The only control surface you have to install is the rudder control surface hinging. We can install that for you and also add the control horn at small service charge. Please send your email to us at info@globaljetclub.com

Hope these pictures will help. Please note, these are already cut out in the latest version.

Thanks,

Mike

We use 2 8411 (JR, high torque servos) on elevons, 1 JRDS3421 on rudder (min-servo), 1 DS821 on nose wheel steering. Total 4 servos. quite a simple set up.

Mike,

Any idea when the EDF version might be available? I have the E-Turbax setup from my JHH A-7 that should do the trick, right?

Hi Bob,

The EDF version will be available at the end of this year. We are testing several EDF platforms.

E-turbax platform will also be available through Jet Hangar. Any 10lbs+ EDF unit will do the trick.

Hi All F4D fans,

Here are more paint schemes.

The Orange glow/White paint scheme was from an full size Skyray at our El Toro Air Field in the 60s.

The NATC (Yellow/Blue/Orange) is a drone plane. No dummy needed. (will post more photos on this one, once it's assembled)

Man I'm usually not a big fan of that Orange & White Navy trainer scheme but on this plane it looks sharp! [sm=shades_smile.gif]

Hi All F4D builders,

Here are some building tips and suggestions coming in just now.
"
Hi Mike
I installed all the servos except for the rudder.
1- The live hinges on the elevons are excellent
2- The pockets for the elevon servos is very tight to mount on the lower surface in the cavity. It is much easier to locate on the cavity closeout panel. This is rather thin glass, 0.030 inches, and a little weak for the very strong servos you recommend. It is also much thinner than what is shown in the pictures provided. I would normally have made the door from a matrix of kevlar and carbon. In this case since I did not want to do a lot of extra painting, I reinforced the door panel with kevlar so it would not likely tear. I also added light ply around the inside edge of the cavity for the screws to adequately secure the door panel. A pull test with the servo stalled indicates this is adequate.
3- The plastic control surface horns are really for a 0.40 size aircraft and not suitable for jets. Suggest you leave them out or provide E-glass of carbon control horns suitable for what you actually show in the assembly pictures.
4- I changes the control linkages to 4-40 hardware, although what is provided may be ok for the lower end propulsion systems.

Hope this is helpful,

Jeff Nemit"

Hi Staale, we are just in the process of delivering the first production Skyrays.

I got a good idea - What if Global Jet give out a free scale cockpit ($150 retail value) to the one that maidens first and posts the video on the you tube or RCU? We will use the posting date as a record for this fun challenge.

Nice pictures Mike!

I am getting really fond of theese small jets. I am expanding my small planes fleet these days, and the green tail A7 also looks very tempting...

People... Don't forget that downsizing is very politically and enviromentally correct theese days, and by flying theese 44 sized planes you contribute to reduce the co2 emissions a lot
In a few years time, if you are flying large 160-200 sized planes just for fun, other people will look at you in the same way that if you were doing your grocery shopping and driving kids to school in a gas guzzling 10.000lbs truck...

Hilllllarious. Problem is you gotta have all these small turbines, then you're stuck buying more midgets when you crash cuz you're mini turbines wont fly anything else, and you can't stop the cycle. It's like RC Crack.
