RE: Bobcat smoke tank
Scott is correct, there is no room internally for a smoke system on the Bobcat XL, the F-16 Centerline tank IS the easiest solution and was what BVM used on their personal aircraft.

You don't need an external tank!
I've two DuBro 16oz tanks on their side, top toward each other. Both are placed where the BT-16 should have been. See the picture.
For fuel; 2 wingtanks + BVM 28oz kevlar hoppertank (#T425) + UAT = 96oz or appr. 2.85liter. 8 min with reserves and a P120SE.

Also, I think the original poster is referring to a BobCat XL, your pictures appear to be of a Composite BobCat.

RE: Bobcat smoke tank
Hi Matt
You're correct, mine is a Composite BC. Sorry, didn't know there was a size difference.
The 28oz BVM tank is placed as high and aft as possible. The tank is round andI made a plywood ring that is glued inside the "arrow" shaped upper aft part of the fuse. This ringholds the aft part of the 28oz tank. This was the only place available if I also wanted some space for smoke tanks.

RE: Bobcat smoke tank
The 'original' Bobcat doesn't have a centre tank in the fuselage, so if you can get by with that configuration (e.g. using a small enough engine that the 2 wing tanks are enough) then you can use all of the space above the wing for a smoke tank.
For an XL, or for an original Bobcat that has had the extra tank from the XL added, you lose the forward part of that space. If you don't want to use the external tank (which works very well) then you may find that the best place to try to shove a tank in, is just AFT of where the centre tank sits. There is some space there, that may be usable. The original instructions show the placement of the bag of fire-retradent material taking up some of that space, but even if you are using that bag (few are), there's still some space that you may be able to play with if you are patient and careful.
