Default TAM F-16 Maiden, Wacky Waco



What do you do when the news says limit outdoor activity, red level air quality alert, etc????????

You pack up your jet and head to the field for some 104 degree excitement!

First 3 flights on Tam Composite F-16, Falcon for the blow. Time to move the C.G. back, and get myself more comfortable. Successful outting, bird flies great (currently nose heavy, carrying a load of up trim)

***HEY, THIS SUCKS!!! HOW DO I GET THEM SO THEY ARE NOT "PIXELIZED," they're not like that locally?! Does RCU auto-reduce?***

RCU auto reduces, when I sent them to you they were 1504 X 1000, now they are 800 X 532

Between work and wind I still haven't maidened mine.

Where did you have your CG & with how much throw ?
This is of huge concern to me because the last thing I want is to run out of elevator if it's nose heavy and I don't want it to be grossly pitch sensitive if I've got too much throw on a CG that's too far back.

Buck was right on, 5.5........ Still nose heavy based on elev trim and feel, it's fine to start with, I did not run out of elev

Vett, for your 1st flight stick to 5.5" CG. Don't worry about throw, use as much as you can. This model is not pitch sensitive at all unless you place your CG at 6" or more.

There is a way around running out of elevator. If space permits, do your base turn with wings flat and keep power so maintain altitude. Then slow down and increase pitch on a very long final.
You typically use all the up-elvator when/if turning base sloooow and high alpha, I personally like that but it does feel like the model is hanging by a thread.

400' is enough. The TJ F-16 actually has a longer takeoff roll than landing. The runway I fly from is roughly 450' and I rarely ever use brakes at all. This thing doesn't stall.

Yes I need a very long final on this plane.
When making my turn to final I feel like I'm out of elevator and the only thing keeping me alive is lots of thrust in the turn.
It will seem like you are too fast coming around onto final. Just go to idle, start a flare and slowly start adding power. It will hold a nice nose up attitude while slowly sinking to the runway.

David: you're alot better pilot than I, I'm definately not ready to fly this at Benbrook. I would have been in the grass on takeoff and landing.

Ronnie: After flying both the cermark and the composite I can say that effect you are talking about is exaggerated in the composite. The throttle is definately the primary flight control surface. I'm excited about how it flies though and I know that it will make me a better pilot.

Mine may just be too heavy with the Falcon in it - I am considering switching the Rabbit to the F-16 and the Falcon to the Bobcat both for fuel economy and weight. I will first maiden the Bobcat on the Rabbit though.

Vettdriver: love the scheme, you did a great job with that!

David: Gimmie a text before you head out there.... 817-360-5697, like Isaid, the Rabbit in the Tam and the Falcon in the Bobcat is probably going to be the best bet for weight and fuel economy, Iwould appreciate the opportunity to observe the flight profile. Especially the approach and landing at bb.

Ditto James, probably' round 4PM.

I went to Texas Jets today and got insested with an $18/quart for Mobile M2. If I ever had a Learjet I would not service it there.

Ivan, drop by Benbrook tomorrow. It will be a cold afternoon (only 98F forecast!!)

David, Nice work yesterday, wow! That thing lands a lot shorter than all those prop guys! Ihave been switching the motors out today and throwing anything overboard not needed after picking up your plane. Mine was a pig...... Al and I are going to head to Waco to maiden his on Wednesday and I'm sure mine will be much more fun to fly with the wabbit.

I just maiden a TAM F-16 1/8 scale today. With kingtech k-100 in it. Flies awesome. However felt really nose heavy. I have it set at the recommended 5" back from leading edge where it meets the fuse. I ended up using most of the 600' runway and FULL elevator. Then once airborne I had to dial in full up elevator trim to get it to fly level. As it sits the nose gear is just about compressed all the way with the weight on the nose. This didn't concern me at first because my skymaster F-18 is same way. But after flying this F-16 it definately is nose heavy. I see some of you guys are moving cg back to 5.5" but no more than 6" correct? By doing this does it put your elevators back to the normal position of 7/16" down from center of fuse measured at leading edge? As of right now my leading edge of stabs are right at bottom of fuse. Looks like I willbe moving cg back half an inch to 5.5" and see if that helps. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

I moved my CG back about .5" and the plane flew much better.
