RE: Cermark Viper Jet Redeux
Guys,
May be looking to sell my Viper...I have just ran into a wall when it comes to time to work on the project. Maybe if someone is interested we can get this project into someone's hands that could complete her...

RE: Cermark Viper Jet Redeux
Hi guys. I'm considering this jet for EDF. Was wondering if there are wheel wells or just openings in the wing for the mains? Pics anyone?
Wondering the diameter of the inlet ducting as it comes together infront of the turbine location?
Height and width of one inlet side to determine inlet area and exhaust diameter for exhaust area?
I have last couple years of RCJI, which issue had this in it?
thanks guys,
Carl

I finished mine. It was SO tail heavy. I built it as forward as I could but still found myself adding about 2lbs to the nose. That hurts big time!! I would have hoped that a revision of this jet would move the engine forward or something to balance out the stiffening that was added to the rudder.
I also put ceramic blanket above the pipe. It stays lukewarm while the engine is running. Nice ductwork. I'll post pics of the inlets and my layout. I was surprised that with the huge body of this fuse - I was running out of room in no time and had to mount my rx on a separate plate.

Here are the pics of my install. Not as clean as I would like for now, but it works and the retracts/brakes are solid. Holding air now for 4 days. Also, all battery packs are in the nose along with the lead.
The intakes are 2"Wx4"H. Hope that helps! It's a lot heavier than my BobCat was and has considerably less wing area. I put crow into the flaps/ail and will just see how it goes.

Not yet. I was going to this weekend but I have to fly out to Chicago for work. Be back on Tues night. -17 de-freakin-grees. I'm not used to that kinda weather!! Next weekend. I'm working with the data logger now checking on fades and where best to put the remote rx's.
Stay warm!

This jet really is rock solid. The instructions definitely suck so I wouldn't wanna make this my first jet EVER. Lots of choices in how to lay everything out and very little help from the cutouts in the trays. But all in all, I think this is gonna be a screamer.

I looked through the front covers of a couple years worth of RCJI and didn't see the Viper mentioned. I may have overlooked a couple issues that are likely spread around the house. Any idea which issue this one was in?

Yes, I used pics of your setup as a general guide. I was worried about putting the turbine ECU and the Rx so close together. I guess it's a non-issue? Also, I didn't recognize some of the items in your pics. Glad to see that you were able to balance out perfectly. I wish we were all so lucky. I don't really have anything else heavy that I could move forward.
Edit -
Oh, I see you have your hopper all the way forward. That would help! Also, I had a helluva time working with the stock bottles! The retract bottle is too big to fit between any of the formers and the brake bottle is tiny. Your BVM ones are much better and seem to fit great. That was a big disappointment to me. I was really hoping to hide them away nicely. No such luck.
Also, the tub portion of the cockpit sits so deeply inside the fuse I was a little cramped vertically. Did you use the cockpit? What does yours look like where the ECU is?

Looks real nice Ledd4u! Where'd you get the pilots and did you go w/ the LED lights in the wings? Got one on order and thinking of putting in the lights.

Everything from Cermark! I started the jet last week and it's Awesome! The JetCat P-120 fired right up with no problems. Only thing left to do now is drill all the little wholes that BVM requires on the tires and fly the the thing. I do hve to go over the set up one more time to make sure all is correct. She ballanced with some nose weight but not as much as all these other guys are using. I needed 24oz to ballance the airplane a tad nose heavy without fuel. Since the tanks are in the middle I see no issues.
I got the lights you have to get them and the pilots from Cermark (Regina). Also, get the bag it's awesome for transporting! You get two bags one for the main wings, the other for the fuse $79.00 can't beat it. I might get another one and paint the whole thing different.

I don't recall who I was talking to there but they weren't pushing the light kit. Have you lit them up to see if they are visible in the day. Most are low watt and can't tell they are on in the day or are only straight forward and can't be seen unless coming directly at you. A FEW are powerful enough to be seen at least a little during the day and shine out at an angle at least a little. What are your thoughts? How about a pic w/ them on outside at an angle, if you don't mind.
