CASH...I do fly most other peoples "hand me downs" My attitude is if I cannot afford to buy it I cannot afford to fly it!!!! It would be crummy to make payments on a crashed plane that I no longer had!

like bigbri i tend to fly secondhand planes that are paid for when they get home ,although the little things that make them tick [on-line purchases ]are always paid for by crebit card along with turbine service ,about 5 years now in turbines i have been able to keep a tight handle on the charges

Hello GreenAcre,
Good to see ya around. I do a little of all. Cash, CC or trade. Just like right now, I have a $3995.00 high end laptop in pristine condtion I'm trying to trade/turn into a 18 to 22 pound turbine engine. What ever it takes to stay in the air!!! Right? Ha.

This started me thinkingHa. I've been in Rc for over 50 years so lets say I spent $5000. a year, which I'm sure I have at least. in 50 yrs. that's $250,000. Wow unbelievable, never gave that a thought. Right now I have 24 planes all fully equiped ready to fly at say $400 ea min. that's $9600 right there plus fuel gas to and from field etc. Glad I never considered all this before. Oh well I'm 83 now so some day in near future my wife can sell all this stuff and get an extra $1000 for herself HAA. It's really amazing what we spend on this hobby without realizing it.Have no regrets it has been worth it.

i do allot of building for others, i take all the proceeds from those builds and put it into a bank account that's just for my 'hobby' (i don't call them toys and both my ex wives found out quick not to either). i buy all my hobby related items out of that account.

I agree with Crazy4Flight. I use a credit card so I have leverage if what I ordered didn't come, was not as described, or was DOA, but I pay it off EVERY MONTH!!!

Debit card for online purchases. I never go into debt on anything hobby related. Never buy until the money is in the bank

you have to write the money off on the first flight, so at least with cash you have paid for it already

So many guys saying it like it is here. It IS a hobby that borders on obsession for some, for me it went much further a long time ago. These days I'm trimming my fleet down to match our home in a new state and to accomodate the lack of basement or outbuildings.
And I use cash when I'm buying my stuff. In fact, I don't carry a credit card at all. I think we have a couple of them but my wife and I went to Zero balance a few years ago and they're put away and only for emergencies.
Perhaps a BETTER question would be; "Have you ever used credit or gone into debt to buy an RC plane ??" In that case I would have to say that YES, years ago I did so several times. I learned my lesson from that when a business deal went bad and I couldn't pay my bills. Left a bad taste in my mouth, I never forgot that. Worked for years to get completely out of debt after that, and my hobby became STRICTLY cash purchases or else I could do without it.
As far as I go now is I spotted a nice Spacewalker II earlier this year at the local Swap Meet, so I ran home and grabbed a couple of models I was phasing out and sold them at the Swap Meet so I could add the Spacewalker II to my fleet. These days that's fairly extreme for me.

Yet, somehow the bills still get paid in full and on time. [8D]
I do make the major purchases on or after the 6th of the month to get into the next billing cycle.
It can be very easy to pull out the plastic and fill yet another room with planes, jets.[sm=drowning.gif]
